Ketura Sun
Ketura Sun is Israel’s first commercial solar field. Built in early 2011 by Arava Power Company on Kibbutz Ketura, it covers 20 acres (8.09 hectares) and is expected to produce to 4.95 megawatts. It has the first automatic solar panel cleaning system in the world. Characteristics The field consists of 18,500 photovoltaic panels made by Suntech, which will produce about nine million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year. In the next twenty years, the field will spare the production of some 125,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide. The field is connected to Israel’s national power grid and sends electricity to the 33,000 volt line to kibbutzim in the area. Solar Field
Solar power is the conversion of energy from sunlight into electricity, either directly using photovoltaics (PV) or indirectly using concentrated solar power. Photovoltaic cells convert light into an electric current using the photovoltaic effect. Ketura ( he, קְטוּרָה) is a kibbutz in southern Israel. Located north of Eilat in the Arabah, Aravah Valley, it falls under the jurisdiction of Hevel Eilot Regional Council. History Ketura was founded in November 1973 by a group of young American Jews, American Jewish immigrants, most of them members of the Zionist youth movement Young Judaea. Difficulties in the early years frustrated many of the inhabitants of the kibbutz, which caused many of the founders to leave. Most energy in Israel comes from fossil fuels. The country's total primary energy demand is significantly higher than its total primary energy production, relying heavily on imports to meet its energy needs. Total primary energy consumption was in 2016, or 26.2 million tonne of oil equivalent. Electricity consumption in Israel was 57,149 GWh in 2017, while production was 64,675 GWh, with net exports of 4.94 TWh. The installed generating capacity was about 16.25 GW in 2014, almost all from fossil fuel power stations, mostly coal and gas fueled.
