Colonel John Ketcham (September 10, 1782 – February 5, 1865) was an American self-taught surveyor, building contractor and judge. Colonel John Ketcham, who was the founding father of Brownstown, Indiana, was famed for his military escapades against Native Americans. His father was supposedly held captive by Native Americans. John Ketchum was awarded titles during his life. Among them was a honorable Colonel ,and judge honorable (from serving the State Legislature). He was also a self-taught surveyor and building contractor. One of his most highly prized titles, however, was that as of one of General Andrew Jackson’s electors. Susan Merrill Ketcham (June 28, 1841 – February 1, 1930) was an American painter. In 1883 she helped organize the Art Association of Indianapolis. Biography Ketcham was born on June 28, 1841 Indianapolis, Indiana. Both sides of her family had an illustrious history in the state. Her father, John Lewis Ketcham, was a prominent lawyer, and son of early Indiana settler Col. John Ketcham. Winthrop Welles Ketcham (sometimes spelled Ketchum, June 29, 1820 – December 6, 1879) was a United States representative from Pennsylvania and a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania. Education and career Born on June 29, 1820, in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, Ketcham pursued classical studies. He was an instructor at Wyoming Seminary in Kingston, Pennsylvania from 1844 to 1847, and at Girard College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1848 and 1849. Henry Holman Ketcham (June 17, 1891 – November 1986) was an American college football player who was a Center (gridiron football), center and Guard (gridiron football), guard positions for the Yale Bulldogs football team of Yale University. Ketcham was recognized as a consensus first-team All-American in 1911 and 1912, and as a second-team selection in 1913. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1968.
