Kerstin (horse)
Kerstin (foaled 1950) was an Irish-bred, British-trained Thoroughbred racehorse and broodmare who won the 1958 Cheltenham Gold Cup. She was imported to England as a young horse and showed early promise by winning over hurdles as a four year old. She showed improvement when campaigned in steeplechases and won the National Hunt Handicap Chase in 1956. She ran four times in the Cheltenham Gold Cup, finishing second in 1957 before becoming the second mare to win the race in the following year. She was unplaced in the net two Gold Cups but produced an outstanding effort to win the Hennessy Gold Cup under 164 pounds in November 1959. After her retirement from racing she had some success as a broodmare. Background Kerstin was a brown mare with no white markings bred in Ireland and reared at the Shanbally Stud in County Tipperary. It was discovered on 1 October 1916, by German astronomer Max Wolf at the Heidelberg-Königstuhl State Observatory in southwest Germany. The assumed C-type asteroid has a rotation period of 18.7 hours and measures approximately in diameter. Any reference of the origin of the asteroid's name is unknown. Orbit and classification ''Kerstin'' is a non-family asteroid of the main belt's background population when applying the hierarchical clustering method to its proper orbital elements. The Fritzl case emerged in 2008, when a woman named Elisabeth Fritzl (born 6 April 1966) told police in the town of Amstetten, Lower Austria, Austria, that she had been held captive for 24 years by her father, Josef Fritzl (born 9 April 1935). J. Fritzl had physical assault, assaulted, sexual abuse, sexually abused, and raped his daughter repeatedly during her imprisonment inside a concealed area in the cellar of the family home. The abuse resulted in the birth of seven children: three of them remained in captivity with their mother; one had died just days after birth at the hands of J. Kerstin Ott (born 17 January 1982 in West Berlin) is a German singer, songwriter, guitarist and DJ. She became known through the song "Die immer lacht" (English: She who always laughs), which was re-mixed by the German DJ and producer team ''Stereoact''. In January 2016, the song was at the top of the German and Austrian singles charts, and also reached the Swiss charts. Career Kerstin Ott recorded the song as a hobby musician around 2005. According to her own account, she had written "Die immer lacht" in only five minutes at the kitchen table for a friend who was ill at the time. The song is about a woman who always laughs outwardly. The narrator takes her by the hand and teaches her to show her true feelings to others. Kerstin Lillemor Ekman, née Hjorth, (born 27 August 1933) is a Swedish novelist. Life and career Kerstin Ekman wrote a string of successful detective novels (among others ''De tre små mästarna'' and ''Dödsklockan'') but later went on to psychological and social themes. Among her later works is ''Mörker och blåbärsris'' (1972) (set in northern Sweden) and '' Händelser vid vatten'' (1993), in which she returned to the form of the detective novel. Ekman was elected member of the Swedish Academy in 1978, but left the Academy in 1989, together with Lars Gyllensten and Werner Aspenström, due to the debate following death threats posed to Salman Rushdie. Kerstin Thorborg (19 May 1896 – 12 April 1970) was a Swedish opera singer. The Mezzo-soprano Kerstin Thorborg was one of the best dramatic Wagnerian singers in the two decades between 1930 and 1950.
