Kerry Marshall
Kerry Leigh Francis Marshall (21 May 1940 – 3 March 2020) was a New Zealand politician who was active in local government in the northern part of New Zealand's South Island. He was mayor of three Territorial authorities of New Zealand, territorial authorities: Richmond, New Zealand, Richmond borough (1986–1989), Mayor of Tasman, Tasman (1989–1998), and Mayor of Nelson, New Zealand, Nelson (2007–2010). Early life Born in Richmond in 1940, Marshall was the son of baker Cedric Marshall, who was active in the labour movement in Nelson. He was educated at Nelson College from 1954 to 1958. Career Both Marshall and his wife were teachers by profession. He worked in Canada, Scotland and Banks Peninsula for some time before returning to Nelson, New Zealand, Nelson in 1980. He became a Richmond, New Zealand, Richmond borough councillor in 1982 and was elected mayor of Richmond in 1986. Richmond (Māori: ''Waimea'') is a town and the seat of the Tasman District Council in New Zealand. It lies south of Nelson in the South Island, close to the southern extremity of Tasman Bay / Te Tai-o-Aorere. The town, first settled by Europeans in 1842, was named in 1854 after the town of Richmond on Thames near London. The town has an estimated population of as of . Although most of Richmond lies outside the boundaries of Nelson City and the town is considered a separate urban area, Richmond is part of the wider Nelson metropolitan area along with nearby Brightwater, Hope, Māpua and Wakefield. Tasman District Council
Tasman District Council ( mi, Te Kaunihera o te tai o Aorere) is the unitary local authority for the Tasman District of New Zealand. The council is led by the mayor of Tasman, who is currently . Tasman elects its 13 councillors from five different wards: three from Motueka, three from Moutere/Waimea, four from Richmond, one from Murchison and two from Golden Bay.
