Kentucky Route 249 (KY 249) is a north–south state highway that traverses two counties in South Central Kentucky. Route description KY 249 starts in the community of Flippin, in western Monroe County, at an intersection with KY 100. Almost immediately after its start, KY 249 intersects KY 678. It makes its way into Barren County a few miles later and goes through mainly rural areas of Barren County, including the community of Roseville. Once it reaches Glasgow, it crosses the Louie B. Flippin is an unincorporated community located in Monroe County, Kentucky, United States. A small residential village and community surround the intersections of Kentucky Route 249, Kentucky Route 678, and Kentucky Route 100, approximately 3.6 miles (5.8 km) south of the Monroe-Barren County line. The south fork and main stream of Indian Creek, a tributary of the Big Barren River, merge at these crossroads in Flippin. Glasgow is a home rule-class city in Barren County, Kentucky, United States. It is the seat of its county. Glasgow is the principal city of the Glasgow micropolitan area, which comprises Barren and Metcalfe counties. The population was 14,028 at the 2010 U.S. census. Monroe County is a county located in the Eastern Pennyroyal Plateau region of the U.S. state of Kentucky. Its county seat is Tompkinsville. The county is named for President James Monroe. It is a prohibition or dry county. History Monroe County is the only county of the 3,144 in the United States named for a President where the county seat is named for his Vice-President. Barren County is a county located in the south-central portion of the U.S. state of Kentucky. As of the 2020 census, the population was 44,485. Its county seat is Glasgow. The county was founded on December 20, 1798, from parts of Warren and Green Counties. It was named for the Barrens, meadowlands that cover the northern third, though actually the soil is fertile. Kentucky Route 100 (KY 100) originates at a junction with U.S.. Highway 79 in Russellville in Logan County. The route continues through Simpson County, Allen County and Monroe County to terminate at a junction with KY 90 near Waterview in Cumberland County. According to the Caves, Lakes, and Corvettes regional brochure, the entire KY 100 corridor is considered a Kentucky Scenic Byway. Kentucky Route 63
Kentucky Route 63 (KY 63) is a north–south state highway that traverses Monroe and Barren counties in south central Kentucky. Route description KY 63 starts at the Tennessee state line at the northern terminus of Tennessee State Route 56. Just north of that point is Gamaliel, where it intersects Bugtussle Road ( KY 87 section 2), and begins its concurrency with KY 100. The two routes have intersections with KY 1860, and KY 1366 during the concurrency from Gamaliel to Tompkinsville. The two routes split at their junction with KY 163 in Tompkinsville. KY 63 turns northwestward to the KY 678 junction at Mount Hermon. After entering Barren County, it meets KY 1324 at Temple Hill. KY 63 continues northwest to Glasgow, traversing the Louie B.
