Kent Kings (baseball)
The Kent Kings were an Ohio–Pennsylvania League minor league baseball team that played in 1905. The club is the only known professional team to have been based in Kent, Ohio. Henry Metz Henry S. Ohio–Pennsylvania League
The Ohio–Pennsylvania League (1905–1912) was a Class C (baseball), Class C and Class D (baseball), Class D level minor league baseball league that featured franchises based in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. The league was founded by Charlie Morton (baseball, born 1854), Charlie Morton and operated for eight seasons, with the Akron Champs winning four league championships. History The Ohio–Pennsylvania League had its beginnings in March 1905, when league president Charlie Morton invited six prospective members to a meeting in Akron, Ohio. In May 1905, eleven teams joined the Protective Association of Independent Clubs, which formed the basis of the Class C Division Ohio–Pennsylvania League. Kent, Ohio
Kent is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the largest city in Portage County. It is located along the Cuyahoga River in Northeast Ohio on the western edge of the county. The population was 28,215 at the 2020 Census. The city is counted as part of the Akron Metropolitan Statistical Area and the larger Cleveland–Akron–Canton Combined Statistical Area. Part of the Connecticut Western Reserve, Kent was settled in 1805 and was known for many years as Franklin Mills. Settlers were attracted to the area due to its location along the Cuyahoga River as a place for water-powered mills. Later development came in the 1830s and 1840s as a result of the settlement's position along the route of the Pennsylvania and Ohio Canal. Henry Metz (baseball)
Henry S. Metz is an American pediatric ophthalmologist. He was the CEO of the Smith-Kettlewell Institute in San Francisco from 2003 to 2008. Much of his early research concerned eye movements and strabismus, including saccadic velocity measurements and use of botulinum toxin. Education and career After completed his undergraduate degree from Columbia College, Columbia University, Metz received his medical degree from SUNY and MBA from the University of Rochester. He did a medical internship at the Jewish Hospital of Brooklyn, followed by an ophthalmology residency at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and strabismus fellowship at the Smith-Kettlewell Eye Research Institute. His fellowship preceptor was the renowned strabismologist Arthur Jampolsky.
