Kent Crusaders (basketball)
The Kent Crusaders are an English basketball club based in the town of Canterbury, Kent. The team's history dates back to the early 1990s, but in its current form it has been in existence since 2000. The club has sent three players to professional contracts in Europe, including Ryan Richards, the youngest player ever to play in the Nike Hoop Summit. The club runs an elite 6th form academy based at Canterbury High School, launched in 2007, and stronger links being formed with the juniors in 2008 as the club expanded to include men's, under-18, under-16 and under-14 National League teams. Club history Origins The roots of the Kent Crusaders began in the early 1990s when Kevin and Christine Paice, Dave Hooper and Hilli Lingham began developing junior basketball at Canterbury College. English Basketball League
The National Basketball League, or NBL for short, is a league competition representing semi-professional and amateur basketball clubs from England and Wales. It forms levels 2 to 4 on the British basketball pyramid, in line with the Scottish Basketball Championship, sitting directly below the top tier British Basketball League. Nike International Junior Tournament
The Euroleague Basketball Next Generation Tournament is an international boy's youth age basketball tournament that is contested between the best basketball clubs in Europe in the Under-18 age category. The tournament is organized by Euroleague Basketball, and is sponsored by Adidas. The tournament's Final Four takes place during the senior men's EuroLeague Final Four event. The tournaments's Final Four also features a slam dunk contest and 3 point shootout contest. History The first Next Generation Tournament Final Four was held in 2003, in Barcelona, Spain. Business And Technology Education Council (BTEC)
The Business and Technology Education Council (BTEC) is a provider of secondary school leaving qualifications and further education qualifications in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Whilst the T in BTEC previously stood for Technical, according to the DFE (2016) it now stands for Technology. BTECs originated in 1984 and were awarded by Edexcel from 1996. Their origins lie in the Business Education Council, formed in 1974 to "rationalise and improve the relevance of sub-degree vocational education". It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Pearson plc. BTEC qualifications, especially Level 3, are accepted by all UK universities (in many instances combined with other qualifications such as A Levels) when assessing the suitability of applicants for admission, and many such universities base their conditional admissions offers on a student's predicted BTEC grades. The Canterbury High School
The Canterbury Academy is a co-educational 11-19 academy school in Canterbury, Kent, England. It is a specialist Sports College and 15% of its 1081 pupils are selected on musical aptitude. The school was founded as a non-selective secondary modern foundation school before gaining academy status in 2010. Location The school is on the London Road estate in the west of the city. The high school and primary school are collectively known as The Canterbury Campus. The Canterbury Adult Education Centre is now on the same site. The Reading Rockets are an English semi-professional basketball club based in the town of Reading, England. Founded in 1997, the Rockets compete in NBL Division 1, the second tier of the British basketball system. History The Rockets were formed in 1997 by current owner Gary Johnson together with his son Matt, starting in Division 3. The club won promotion at the first attempt, and in the National Basketball League reorganisation of 2000, England Basketball replaced Division 1 with the eight-team NBL Conference as the second-tier. Reins are items of horse tack, used to direct a horse or other animal used for riding. Gillingham ( ) is a large town in the unitary authority area of Medway in the ceremonial county of Kent, England. The town forms a conurbation with neighbouring towns Chatham, Rochester, Strood and Rainham. It is also the largest town in the borough of Medway. Walter Moyse (born in 1981) is a 6'11" (210 cm) Canadian basketball player, playing professional basketball in Europe following a successful collegiate career at Acadia University in Canada. Born in Summerside, Prince Edward Island, he is the younger brother of Canadian Gold Medal Olympian and World Rugby Hall of Fame member Heather Moyse.
