Kenny Linzell
Kenneth W Linzell also known as Kenny or Ken, (born 1937), is a former British greyhound trainer. He was UK Champion trainer in 1985 and twice winner of the Trainers Championship. Profile Linzell started training on the independent circuit taking runners regularly to Rayleigh Weir Stadium, Hinckley Greyhound Stadium and the West Suffolk Greyhound Stadium. After gaining a National Greyhound Racing Club licence he had attachments at Ipswich Stadium, Southend Stadium and Hackney Wick Stadium. Linzell's Burton Lodge kennels were based in Wickford, Essex and he secured a leading position within the industry when contracted at Walthamstow Stadium in 1983. In 1983 he trained Glatton Grange who won over £23,000 in prize money winning the Greyhound Breeders Forum Stakes, the British Breeders Forum Stakes and the International. A greyhound trainer is a person who trains greyhounds for racing. This involves exercising, feeding, and grooming them in addition to keeping the greyhound in race condition to enable the greyhound to race to the best of its ability. Southend Stadium
Southend Stadium was a former greyhound racing and football stadium in Grainger Road, Southend-on-Sea, Essex. It was also the home ground of Southend United between 1934 and 1955 and was also known as Greyhound Park. Origins The first greyhound racing in Southend took place at the Kursaal from 1927 until 1929. Three years later in 1932 planning permission for a new stadium was submitted to the Southend Council by a new company called Southend Stadium Ltd headed by the Wimbledon supremo William John Cearns. The new stadium was built on the site of the Milton Hall Brickworks in the All Saints Ward and featured two main stands, the east stand which would later have a restaurant and the west stand with covered seating, the remainder of the stadium being uncovered terracing. Brian Clemenson
Brian Adrian Clemenson (born 1963) is a retired English greyhound trainer. He is a three times United Kingdom champion Champion Trainer. Profile Clemenson was a head man for Kenny Linzell before taking out a trainer's licence. He raced out of Brighton & Hove Greyhound Stadium which he joined after a spell at Hackney Wick Stadium. He was initially based at Bersheda Kennels in Wickford but a decade later moved to the Romford Greyhound Kennels in Billingshurst. He came to prominence in the early 1990s and after reaching multiple finals finally won a feature competition in 1999 when he won the Pall Mall Stakes. He reached the final of the 1998 English Greyhound Derby with Tullerboy Cash before steering two runners into the 2002 English Greyhound Derby and finishing runner-up in the 2004 English Greyhound Derby. Romford Greyhound Stadium
Romford Greyhound Stadium, referred to as Coral Romford Greyhound Stadium is a Greyhound racing in the United Kingdom, greyhound racing track located in Romford town centre in the London Borough of Havering in east London which is owned and operated by the Ladbrokes Coral group. The stadium has a capacity for over 1,700 people. The stadium has won several awards including the British Greyhound Racing Board's 'Racecourse of the Year' award in 1998 and again in 2003. Following the closure of Wimbledon Stadium in March 2017, it is one of only two stadiums left in London or Greater London, the other being Crayford Stadium. Irish Greyhound Derby
The Irish Greyhound Derby held at Shelbourne Park, is the premier greyhound racing competition in Ireland. First held at Harold's Cross in 1928, the event was unofficial until 1932 and called the National Derby. The first winner in 1928 was Tipperary Hills who won in a time of 30.56 sec at a starting price of 1-1f. It controversially switched to Shelbourne Park in 1932 and then it was held in alternate years between the two tracks. The defunct Markets Field Greyhound Stadium in Limerick and the defunct Cork Greyhound Stadium in Western Road both hosted the event once in 1939 and 1942 respectively. The 1969 Irish Greyhound Derby was the last renewal held at Harold's Cross and the competition remained at Shelbourne Park from 1970. 1985 English Greyhound Derby
The 1985 Daily Mirror Greyhound Derby took place during May and June with the final being held on 22 June 1985 at Wimbledon Stadium. It was the first time that Wimbledon hosted the event following the closure of the White City Stadium. The winner was Pagan Swallow and the winning owner David Hawthorn received £25,000. The competition was sponsored by the Daily Mirror. The Grand Prix
The Grand Prix was a classic greyhound competition held at Walthamstow. It was first run in 1945 and in 1971 it was granted classic status. The race came to an end following the closure of Walthamstow in 2008. The race is not to be confused with the Arena Racing Company Grand Prix held at Sunderland. The competition was not run from 1952 until 1953 due to insufficient entries and again from 1964 to 1965. The event was cancelled in 1965 following the refusal by the National Greyhound Racing Club to allow a change is race distance. St Leger (greyhounds)
The St Leger is an original classic greyhound competition. Race history It was run at Wembley Stadium from 1928 until 1998 but when the Wembley Greyhounds ended it moved to Wimbledon Stadium in 1999. The race is considered to be the premier stayers (between 500 and 700 metres) competition in greyhound racing. The competition came to an end at Wimbledon after the 2016 running before being switched to GRA sister track Perry Barr. The prize money has reduced in recent times due to financial issues in 2010 and the loss of a Sky TV contract more recently. However, Premier Greyhound Racing doubled the winner's prize money to £20,000 in 2022. Walthamstow Stadium was a greyhound racing track in the London Borough of Waltham Forest in east London.BBC News - Walthamstow race track to close' It was regarded as the leading greyhound racing stadium in Britain following the closure of White City in 1984. Wickford
Wickford is a town and civil parish in the south of the English county of Essex, with a population of 33,486. Located approximately 30 miles (50 km) east of London, it is within the Borough of Basildon along with the original town of Basildon, Billericay, Laindon and Pitsea.
