Kennon Island
Kennon Island (52°56N 173°15E) is a 0.3-mi-long satellite of Attu Island in the Near Islands group at the extreme western end of the Aleutian Islands, Alaska. It is located 0.5 mi off the east side of Attu in Chichagof Bay. It was named by Lt. William Gibson in July 1855 for Lt. Beverley Kennon, U.S. Navy. Lt. Kennon served with Lt. Sandy Kennon
Neil Sandilands "Sandy" Kennon (28 November 1933 – 17 August 2015) was a professional footballer and amateur cricketer. His position was goalkeeper. He made 367 appearances in the Football League playing for Huddersfield Town, Norwich City and Colchester United. He also played rugby for Beccles Rugby club Career After beginning his career in his native South Africa, where he played for Umbilo FC, Berea Park and Queen's Park, he was spotted by Huddersfield Town while playing for Rhodesia. He signed for the Terriers in 1956 and stayed there for three years before joining Norwich City in early 1959. William Kennon Mayo
William Kennon Mayo (1824–1900) was an officer in the United States Navy, most notably during the Mexican–American War and the American Civil War. Biography Mayo, a native of Virginia, was appointed a midshipman in the U.S. Navy on October 18, 1841. He was first active in service during the Mexican–American War. Mayo was given charge of the boats of the landing party during the surrender of Monterrey. He also took part in the capture of Tampico and Vera Cruz. After the war, Mayo was attached to a number of ships. His duties included surveying, other scientific work, and for a time, he was an instructor at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis. In 1855, Mayo received his commission as lieutenant. In January 1862, during the Civil War, he was appointed executive officer of the corvette during the Union blockade of Charleston, South Carolina. Kennon Richard Lewis (4 September 1939 – 3 March 2019) was an Australian politician who was a Liberal Party member of the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia from 1986 to 1996, representing the seats of East Melville (1986 to 1989) and Applecross (1989 to 1996). Born in East Fremantle, Lewis attended Fremantle Boys' School and Scotch College before going on to Perth Technical College, where he trained as a cartographer and surveyor. Robert Kennon Hargrove (1829–1905) was an American bishop of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, elected in 1882. Biography Robert Kennon Hargrove was born on September 17, 1829, in Pickens County, Alabama. He was converted to Christianity at the age of eleven. He graduated from the University of Alabama in 1852. He was a professor of Pure Mathematics at his '' alma mater'', the University of Alabama, from 1853 to 1857. Sidney Kennon
Sidney Kennon, known as Mrs. Cannon (died 1754), was an 18th-century British midwife who delivered the babies of royalty and other great families. She collected numerous creatures, curiosities and specimens. Her collections were auctioned after her death and she left a large sum of money to promote the delivery of babies by women rather than men. She was influential in the court of George II and delivered George III in 1738 as a baby for Queen Caroline. Charging up to 50 guineas for a delivery, she became rich. She lived near the court in Jermyn Street, where she entertained celebrities such as Frederick, Prince of Wales. She amassed a large collection of curiosities and objects of natural history. Kennon Observatory
Kennon Observatory is an astronomical observatory owned and operated by the University of Mississippi. Built in 1939 and located on the university's campus in Oxford, Mississippi, it was named after William Lee Kennon, a long-serving chair of the Department of Physics and Astronomy. It consists of two copper-roofed domes with the main entrance of the observatory facing south, and the building precisely aligned east to west. A small tube in the south wall is oriented such that direct rays of the sun shine through it to the floor only twice a year, at noon on the vernal and autumnal equinoxes.
