Kenneth Martin (English Painter)
Kenneth Laurence Martin (13 April 1905, Sheffield – 18 November, 1984, London), was an English painter and sculptor who, with his wife Mary Martin and Victor Pasmore, was a leading figure in the revival of Constructivism. Life Kenneth Martin’s father was a former soldier who worked in Sheffield as a coal clerk and supported his son at Sheffield School of Art during 1921-3. After his father's death, Martin worked in the city as a graphic designer, occasionally studying at the art school part-time. He won a scholarship to the Royal College of Art in 1929-32 and there met Mary Balmford, whom he married in 1930. During the 1930s he painted in a naturalistic style and was associated with the Euston Road School along with Victor Pasmore. During the 1940s Martin's work began to emphasise elements of structure and design until 1948–49 when, following Pasmore's lead, it became purely abstract. Ken Martin (born 1952) is a South Australian sculptor. History Ken began sculpting professionally in wood, in 1975. He undertook a study tour of Great Britain and Italy in 1992, to coincide with a showing of his work in the Royal Academy of Arts' "Summer Exhibition" in London, which coincided with a commitment to bronze as his favoured medium. Since then the majority of his work has been commissioned representational studies. Ken Martin (born September 10, 1958) is a former American long-distance runner who is a two-time United States national champion in the marathon. At the 1984 California International Marathon, Martin set a course record with a time of 2:11:24. At the 1985 Pittsburgh Marathon, he competed alongside his wife at the time, Lisa Martin; they became the fastest married couple ever in a marathon and won both of their divisions.
