Kenneth King (Kansas Politician)
Kenneth Ray King (May 21, 1930–January 20, 2003) was an American politician who served as a Republican member of the Kansas House of Representatives from 1978 to 1996. He represented the 77th District and lived in Leon, Kansas. King was initially appointed to the House to fill the seat left vacant by the resignation of Bob Whittaker. Bob Whittaker
Robert Russell Whittaker (born September 18, 1939) is a former U.S. Representative from Kansas. Early life Whittaker was born in Eureka, Kansas and was educated in the Greenwood County public schools. He attended the University of Kansas from 1957 to 1959, and Emporia State University during the summer of 1959. Whittaker earned his Doctor of Optometry degree (O.D.) from Illinois College of Optometry in 1962, and began practice as an optometrist. He was clinic director for the Kansas Low Vision Clinic in 1973. Career Whittaker's first foray into politics was as precinct committeeman and member of the city planning commission from 1970 to 1974. He served in the Kansas House of Representatives from 1974 to 1977. Whittaker was elected as a Republican to the Ninety-sixth and to the five succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1979 – January 3, 1991). Peggy Palmer
Peggy R. Palmer (born July 6, 1945) is an American former realtor and politician from Kansas. She served as a Republican in both chambers of the Kansas State Legislature, and as a county commissioner for Butler County. Palmer was born in Wichita. She worked as a campaign manager for Kenneth King during his successful run for the Kansas House of Representatives. She lived for ten years in Saudi Arabia, after her husband, Tom Palmer, was sent there to work for Mobil Oil. The couple returned to Kansas in 1994, and Palmer credits her time in Saudi Arabia with leading her to enter public service in America. As a state legislator, she lived in Augusta, Kansas, where she worked as a realtor. After returning from Saudi Arabia, Palmer ran for the State House when King retired in 1996, with his endorsement.
