Kendriyo Muslim Sahitya Sangsad
Kendriya Muslim Sahitya Sangsad ( bn, কেন্দ্রীয় মুসলিম সাহিত্য সংসদ) (Sylhet Central Muslim Literary Society) is a literary organisation located in Sylhet, Bangladesh. It is the one of the oldest organisations of its kind in the Indian sub-continent and the oldest in Bangladesh. It was founded on 16 September 1936 by Muhammad Nurul Haque. It has the largest non-government collection of books, magazines, inscriptions etc. Some of them date back to the 13th century AD. The former presidents of the organisation include many writers, critics and poets from Sylhet such as Syed Mujtaba Ali, Dewan Mohammad Azraf and Dilwar Khan Dilwar Khan (1 January 1937 – 10 October 2013) was a Bangladeshi poet. Muhammad Nurul Haque
Muhammad Nurul Haque was a Bangladeshi cultural activist, social worker, and a writer. Career Haque started his own magazine, ''Abhizan'', while still studying at Sylhet Government Aliya Madrasah. He was the founding Secretary of Sylhet Kendriya Muslim Sahitya Sangsad. He edited Al-Islah, the official magazine of Sylhet Kendriya Muslim Sahitya Sangsad, for 48 years. He was a Muslim Nationalist who support the Pakistan Movement. He organized the July 1947 Sylhet referendum that decided whether Sylhet would join the future state of Pakistan or India. He support the Bengali Language Movement and wrote in favor of making Bengali the State language of Pakistan. On 19 August 1963, he was awarded the Tamgha-i-Khidmat by the Government of Pakistan. Asiatic Society Of Bangladesh
The Asiatic Society of Bangladesh is a non political and non profit research organisation registered under both Society Act of 1864 and NGO Bureau, Government of Bangladesh. The Asiatic Society of Bangladesh was established as the Asiatic Society of East Pakistan in Dhaka in 1952 by a number of Muslim leaders, and renamed in 1972. Ahmed Hasan Dani, a noted Muslim historian and archaeologist of Pakistan played an important role in founding this society. He was assisted by Muhammad Shahidullah, a Bengali linguist. Syed Mujtaba Ali
Syed Mujtaba Ali ( bn, সৈয়দ মুজতবা আলী; 13 September 1904 – 11 February 1974) was a Bengali writer, journalist, travel enthusiast, academic, scholar and linguist. He lived in Bangladesh, India, Germany, Afghanistan and Egypt. Early life and education Ali was born on 13 September 1904 to a Bengali Muslim family in Karimganj, Sylhet district, British Raj. His father, Khan Bahadur Syed Sikander Ali, was a sub-registrar. He traced his paternal descent to Shah Ahmed Mutawakkil, a local holy man and a Syed of Taraf, though apparently unrelated to Taraf's ruling Syed dynasty. Ali's mother, Amtul Mannan Khatun, was a Chowdhury of Bahadurpur, an Islamised branch of the Pal family of Panchakhanda. Dewan Mohammad Azraf
Dewan Mohammad Azraf ( bn, দেওয়ান মোহাম্মদ আজরফ; 1908–1999) was a Bengali philosopher, teacher, author, politician, journalist and activist. In 1993, he was honoured as a National Professor in Bangladesh. He was also a supporter of the Bengali Language Movement. For his support of the movement, he was dismissed from the post of the principal of Sunamganj College in 1954, the same year he was promoted to the post. His support was particularly influential when he edited the ''Nao Belal'' in 1948. He was actively involved with Kaikobad Sahitya Majlish (1972–99).
