Ken Stewart (ice Hockey)
Kenneth Lawrence Stewart (March 29, 1912 – April 4, 2002) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player who played six games in the National Hockey League for the Chicago Black Hawks. He was born in Port Arthur, Ontario, but grew up in Edmonton, Alberta. He had previously played junior hockey in Edmonton and senior hockey with the Lethbridge Maple Leafs for three seasons, being the highest scoring defenceman for the team in his last season, 1940–41, registering 28 goals and 16 assists. On September 27, 1941, he signed a contract with the Black Hawks of the National Hockey League. Defenceman
Defence or defense (in American English) in ice hockey is a player position that is primarily responsible for preventing the opposing team from Goal (ice hockey), scoring. They are often referred to as defencemen, D, D-men or blueliners (the latter a reference to the blue line in ice hockey which represents the boundary of the offensive zone; defencemen generally position themselves along the line to keep the puck in the zone). Lethbridge Maple Leafs
The Lethbridge Maple Leafs were, at times, a senior, intermediate, and junior ice hockey team that operated out of Lethbridge, Alberta. They are best known for winning the 1951 World Ice Hockey Championships. The Maple Leafs were a men's senior ice hockey team from Lethbridge, Alberta formed in 1936, playing in the Alberta Senior Hockey League. After World War II, the Maple Leafs played in the Western Canada Senior Hockey League. In 1950, they captured the Western Canadian Championship. The Maple Leafs were selected to represent Canada at the 1951 World Championships in Paris, France. Coached by Dick Gray, the Maple Leafs won the gold medal, following which they embarked on a European tour. They entered the first Sir Winston Churchill Cup Competition, winning the gold medal. The Kamloops Rockets were a Tier II Junior "A" ice hockey team from Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada. Western International Hockey League
The Western International Hockey League (WIHL) was a senior level ice hockey league that featured teams from the Western United States and Western Canada. It operated from 1946–62 and 1963–88. It grew out of the West Kootenay League, which operated in southeast British Columbia from the 1920s. The league had teams in the British Columbian cities of Trail, Nelson, Kimberley, Rossland, Fernie, and Cranbrook; in Spokane, Washington; Calgary, Alberta; Portland, Oregon; and Los Angeles. The league did not operate in 1962–63 while member team the Trail Smoke Eaters competed for and won the world amateur championship overseas. The Los Angeles Ramblers were a senior men's ice hockey team that played one season (1946–47) in the Western International Hockey League. History In 1946–47, a group of Los Angeles businessmen entered a team in the WIHL. Having to guarantee all expenses for teams from Kimberley, Nelson, Trail and Spokane, with each club making four trips and playing a doubleheader, proved too expensive to sustain, especially with Los Angeles having a team in the more popular Pacific Coast Hockey League. To add color to the league, the Los Angeles Ramblers' executive came up with the George Montgomery-Dinah Shore Cup, a trophy donated by the film-famed pair from Hollywood.
