Ken Smyth
Kenneth William Smyth (born 4 October 1948) is a former Australian politician. He was born in Rockhampton to Frederick Tomas Smyth and Annie Maud, ''née'' Gray; his parents separated two years after his birth. He attended both state and Catholic schools in Mackay before becoming a carpenter and then a miner with the Utah Company's Peak Downs coalmine. Electoral District Of Bowen
Bowen was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland from 1873 to 1950 and at various times until 1992. History The electoral district of Bowen was established by the 1872 Electoral Districts Act. During the First McIlwraith Ministry, the seat of Bowen was occupied by three Attorneys-General: Henry Beor, Pope Alexander Cooper and Charles E. Chubb. Upon Beor's death, Cooper, who was not at that time in Parliament, was appointed Attorney-General and contested and won the resulting by-election. When he resigned, Chubb entered parliament in the same manner. Bowen is the only state or federal electorate in Australia to elect a Communist member, Fred Paterson, who served as member for Bowen from the 1944 election until the 1950 election. Rockhampton is a city in the Rockhampton Region of Central Queensland, Australia. The Australian Labor Party (Queensland Branch), commonly known as Queensland Labor or as just Labor inside Queensland, is the state branch of the Australian Labor Party in the state of Queensland. It has functioned in the state since the 1880s. History Trade unionists in Queensland had begun attempting to secure parliamentary representation as early as the mid-1880s. William McNaughton Galloway, the president of the Seamen's Union, mounted an unsuccessful campaign as an independent in an 1886 by-election. Peak Downs Mine
Peak Downs Mine is a large open cut coking coal mine in Queensland located 31 km SSE of Moranbah. Peak Downs is one of seven mines in Bowen Basin owned by BHP Mitsubishi Alliance, Australia's largest coal miner and exporter. Production at Peak Downs started in 1972. The Caval Ridge Coal Mine, which will be located adjacent to Peak Downs, will begin construction in 2011 and begin exporting by 2014. It is expected to process 2.5 million tons of coal each year from Peak Downs. Shire Of Belyando
The Shire of Belyando was a local government area in Central Queensland, Australia. The Shire, administered from the town of Clermont, covered an area of , and existed as a local government entity from 1879 until 2008, when it was amalgamated with the Shires of Broadsound and Nebo to form the Isaac Region. The shire had two main towns, Clermont and Moranbah, and its economy was based on agriculture and mining.
