Ken Grimley
Ken Grimley (born 7 February 1936) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Fitzroy Football Club, Fitzroy in the Australian Football League, Victorian Football League (VFL). Grimley was a rugby league full-back while growing up in Brisbane and only took up Australian football after leaving school. He started out in the Wilston Grange Football Club, Wilston Grange junior team but soon broke into the seniors and in 1955 played in the club's first ever Queensland Australian Football League, QANFL premiership. The following year he was the league's top goal-kicker with over 100 goals. He spent just one season at Fitzroy, having been invited to the club by officials he met during an exhibition game in Brisbane. In just his second appearance, but first full game, Grimley kicked six goals from full-forward against Geelong at Kardinia Park. Wilston Grange Football Club
The Wilston Grange Football Club is an Australian rules football club which competes in the Queensland Australian Football League. It is based in inner-northern Brisbane and fields senior men's and women's, masters, youth and junior teams. The club's home at Hickey Park, Stafford, also hosts the largest AFL9s league in Queensland. History Wilston Grange was formed in 1945 as "Wilston Football Club", renamed Wilston Grange in 1947 and entered the QANFL in 1950. Their original home ground was Emerson Park, Grange, and the club relocated to Hickey Park for the 1964 season. Fitzroy Football Club
The Fitzroy Football Club is an Australian rules football club currently competing in the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA). Formed in 1883 to represent the inner-Melbourne municipality of Fitzroy, the club was a member of the Victorian Football Association (VFA), before becoming a foundation member of the breakaway Victorian Football League (VFL/AFL) in 1897. Fitzroy won a total of eight VFL premierships, of which seven (1898, 1899, 1904, 1905, 1913, 1916 and 1922) were won whilst they were nicknamed the Maroons and one (1944) as the Gorillas. The decision of the club to change its nickname to the Lions in 1957 coincided with what history now records as the beginning of decades of poor on-field performance and financial losses that eventually resulted in the club being placed into administration, ultimately leaving the AFL at the end of the 1996 season. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. Through the AFL Commission, the AFL also serves as the sport's governing body and is responsible for controlling the laws of the game. Originally known as the Victorian Football League (VFL), it was founded in 1896 as a breakaway competition from the Victorian Football Association (VFA), with its inaugural season commencing the following year. The Queensland Australian Football League (QAFL) is an Australian rules football competition organised by the AFL Queensland, contested by clubs from South East Queensland. Coorparoo Football Club
Coorparoo Football Club is an Australian rules football club based in the Brisbane suburb of Coorparoo from 1935 until the senior club folded in 1995. The club left the QAFL following the 1993 season due to the financial strain experienced since the recent introduction of a minimum salary cap, and joined the Brisbane Australian Football League (BAFL) for the 1994 and 1995 seasons. The "Coorparoo Junior Australian Football Club" has continued as a stand-alone club since 1996 to the present. The Grogan Medal is an Australian rules football award given to the best and fairest player in home and away rounds of each season's Queensland State League (Australian rules football), QAFL/Queensland State League competition. From 2011 to present it is awarded to the best and fairest player in the North East Australian Football League Northern Conference. Brett Grimley
Brett Grimley (born 3 March 1960) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Fitzroy in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the 1980s. Grimley started out in the Queensland Australian Football League where he played with Wilston Grange. He made his Fitzroy debut in the opening round of the 1983 season but was unable to establish himself in the side. After returning to Queensland, Grimley had success as Wilston Grange's full-forward and kicked 107 goals in 1987 to top the QAFL goal-kicking. Michael Voss
Michael Voss (born 7 July 1975) is a former professional Australian rules football player with the Brisbane Bears/Lions and current senior coach of the Carlton Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Voss was a triple premiership captain with the Brisbane Football Club. Jason Dean Akermanis (born 24 February 1977) is a former professional Australian rules football player who played in the Australian Football League (AFL). He is a Brownlow Medallist and triple premiership player who played for the Brisbane Bears, Brisbane Lions and Western Bulldogs.
