Ken Davies (politician)
Kenneth Henry Davies (born 8 July 1948) is an Australian politician who represented the seats of Townsville and Mundingburra in the Queensland Legislative Assembly for the Labor Party. First elected in 1989, he was the head of the Parliamentary Criminal Justice Commission, and then was promoted to cabinet, in a junior ministerial role in Emergency Services and Consumer Affairs. A close race in the 1995 state election resulted in him winning by just 16 votes. The result was overturned by the Court of Disputed Returns on 8 December 1995, and Davies, running as an Independent after being disendorsed by the ALP, lost in the subsequent by-election. Kenneth Davies (December 20, 1925 - December 24, 2017) was an American painter based in Madison, Connecticut, known for his '' trompe-l'œil'' work. Ken Davies was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts. He attended Yale University, where he painted his first important oil painting, "Lighthouses in the Alps". The work captured the attention of New York City cultural figure Lincoln Kirstein, who helped Davies attain showings of his early works in 1950 at the Hewitt Gallery. Kenneth George "Buck" Davies (August 10, 1922 – November 11, 2004) was a Canadian ice hockey player, who played center. He played one game in the National Hockey League a playoff game with the New York Rangers on April 4, 1948 against the Detroit Red Wings. Kenneth Davies (20 September 1923 – 14 November 2008) was an English professional footballer who played as a winger in the Football League for Walsall and Brighton & Hove Albion. Life and career Davies was born in Doncaster, West Riding of Yorkshire, in 1923. He played junior football along with Billy Woodcock, brother of Bruce who would become British Heavyweight Boxing Champion and continued in the position of centre forward at Oswin Avenue School. He qualified at Doncaster Plant works as a coppersmith working on such legendary engines as The Silver Link, The Flying Scotsman and The Mallard. As war loomed, this would become a reserved occupation, so Davies was never enlisted. He played football for the plant team and after one of the games was approached by Mark Crook, offering the opportunity to become a professional footballer. The Welsh Sports and Saloon Car Championship is organised by the BARC and the Welsh Racing Drivers’ Association, the main venue of the championship being Pembrey. 2009 sees the championship travelling to Brands Hatch. The championship has also raced at Ty Croes in Anglesey, Donington Park, Mallory Park, Silverstone, Mondello Park, Lydden Hill, Thruxton and Oulton Park. Class structure The championship was first awarded in 1991 and has been contested every season since then. The class structure is modified for 2008 as follows: Class A, for road based saloon and sports cars up to 1600cc. Class B is contested by modified, road based saloon and sports cars with engines of up to 2000cc. Class C follows the same rules as Class B, except that it requires engine sizes to be above 2000cc. Finally Class D is for cars conforming to Touring car racing regulations and re-engined sports cars, such as Caterhams.
