Ken Carter (song)
"Ken Carter" is the second single released by Australian alternative rock band, Ammonia, from their debut album '' Mint 400''. The single was released by Sony Music Australia's imprint label, Murmur in late February 1996. The single reached No. 50 on the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Singles Chart. The song was named after Ken Carter, a Canadian stuntman who attempted to jump over the Saint Lawrence River in the late 1970s. Johnstone describes the song as being about feeling trapped in a relationship. According to Allmusic's reviewer, Nitsuh Abebe, '"Ken Carter" sounds like a more rocked-out version of the Posies.' The South Florida Sun-Sentinel describes the beginning of "Ken Carter" as being nothing but annoying whining, although the addition of a great riff in the chorus gives it the high intensity that it needs. Ammonia (band)
Ammonia was an alternative rock band from Australia which made a name for itself in the 1990s, producing a mixture of grunge and guitar pop (a sound they described as "pop-metal"). The group began in 1992, initially comprising guitarist Dave Johnstone (ex-Hideous Goldsteins), drummer Alan Balmont (ex-Dear Octopus, Cherrytones) and bass guitar player Phil Natt. This line-up performed under the name Fuzzswirl and, following the departure of Natt, they continued to perform with a variety of bass guitar players around their hometown of Perth, Western Australia, Perth. In 1993, when the bass guitarist Simon Hensworth joined the group, the name was changed to Ammonia. The band was considering the name "Glorious Noise Earthquake", but selected Ammonia for its simplicity after Hensworth stumbled across the word in a science textbook. Matt Lovell is an Australian audio engineer, record producer and mixer. He has won three ARIA Music Awards for Engineer of the Year: in 2005 for his work on The Mess Hall's' ''Notes from a Ceiling'', in 2006 for ''Black Fingernails, Red Wine'' by Eskimo Joe, and in 2008 for his work on Shihad's ''Beautiful Machine''. Lovell was the CEO and co-owner of Lovell's Lager, a brewery. A refrain (from Vulgar Latin ''refringere'', "to repeat", and later from Old French ''refraindre'') is the line or lines that are repeated in music or in poetry — the "chorus" of a song. Poetic fixed forms that feature refrains include the villanelle, the virelay, and the sestina. A riff is a repeated chord progression or refrain in music (also known as an ostinato figure in classical music); it is a pattern, or melody, often played by the rhythm section instruments or solo instrument, that forms the basis or accompaniment of a musical composition. Though riffs are most often found in rock music, heavy metal music, Latin, funk, and jazz, classical music is also sometimes based on a riff, such as Ravel's Boléro. The Posies
The Posies were an American power pop group. The band was formed in 1986 in Bellingham, Washington, United States, by primary songwriters Jon Auer and Ken Stringfellow. Their music has its origins in Merseybeat and the Hollies. They are influenced by Hüsker Dü, XTC, Elvis Costello and Squeeze. The band split up in October 2021, following several allegations of sexual misconduct made against bandmember Ken Stringfellow.
