Ken Burns (footballer)
Kinear Burns (1923 – 2006), more commonly known as Ken Burns, was a Manx footballer, who played as a winger in the Football League for Tranmere Rovers and Southport F.C. Career After gaining notoriety in the Isle of Man Football League. Tranmere Rovers manager, Ernie Blackburn, traveled to the Isle of Man to offer Burns a professional contract. Burns was released after one season. Southport F.C. offered Burns a 2 month trial but the club declined to offer Burns a contract for the rest of the season. Upon being released by Southport, Burns would return to the Isle of Man to continue his football career where he would play until his retirement at 60. Personal life Burns worked on boats in the Isle of Man during the off seasons. Burns worked as an electrical contractor in Ramsey up until his death. Ramsey ( gv, Rhumsaa) is a coastal town in the north of the Isle of Man. It is the second largest town on the island after Douglas. Its population is 7,845 according to the 2016 Census. The Isle of Man Football League is the senior football league on the Isle of Man and is run by the Isle of Man Football Association. Although the league is affiliated with The Football Association, it does not form a part of the English football league system. History The league's representative XI has won the FA Inter-League Cup on two occasions. In 2006 they beat the Cambridgeshire County League XI and qualified for the 2007 UEFA Regions' Cup, being eliminated in the group stage in Czech Republic. Robert Ernest Blackburn (23 April 1893 – 13 July 1964) was an English football player and manager. Career Playing career Born in Crawshawbooth, Blackburn played as a full back for Loveclough, Manchester Youth Club, The Army, Aston Villa and Bradford City. For Aston Villa, he made 32 appearances in the Football League; he also made 1 FA Cup appearance. For Bradford City, he made 40 appearances in the Football League; he also made 2 FA Cup appearances. The Football League
The English Football League (EFL) is a league of professional football clubs from England and Wales. Founded in 1888 as the Football League, the league is the oldest such competition in the world. It was the top-level football league in England from its foundation until 1992, when the top 22 clubs split from it to form the Premier League.
