Kelsie Wills
Kelsie Thwaites ( ''née'' Wills; born 8 January 1993) is a New Zealand rugby union player. She previously represented New Zealand in Beach volleyball before switching to rugby. Volleyball career Thwaites completed an indoor volleyball scholarship in the United States, and played professionally in Paris. Thwaites and playing partner Shaunna Polley represented New Zealand at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. They were the nation's first women's beach volleyball team to compete at the Games. The pair won a bronze medal at the Ulsan Open in South Korea on the 2017 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour. Rugby career Thwaites made a switch to rugby union in 2019. She made the Bay of Plenty Volcanix squad in her debut year for the Farah Palmer Cup. She wore the black jersey for the first time in two non-test matches against the NZ Barbarians in 2020. The Chiefs Manawa (officially called the Waitomo Chiefs Manawa for sponsorship reasons) are a New Zealand women's professional rugby union team based in Hamilton, New Zealand that competes in the Super Rugby Aupiki competition. Chiefs Manawa won the inaugural season of the Super Rugby Aupiki competition. They went undefeated throughout the season and beat the Blues Women 35–0 in the final round to claim the title. History Historic clash The Chiefs and Blues women created history when they clashed in the first-ever women's Super Rugby match in New Zealand on 1 May 2021. The game was hosted by the Blues at Eden Park and was played as a double header before the Round 10 Super Rugby Aotearoa match between their men's teams. The New Zealand women's rugby union team, called the Black Ferns, represents New Zealand in women's international rugby union, which is regarded as the country's national sport. The team has won six out of nine Women's Rugby World Cup tournaments. They have an 85 per cent winning record in Test match rugby, and are the only women's international side with a winning record against every opponent. 2023 Super Rugby Aupiki Season
The 2023 Super Rugby Aupiki season was the second season of Super Rugby Aupiki (known as Sky Super Rugby Aupiki for sponsorship reasons), a professional women's rugby union club competition organised by New Zealand Rugby. The competition ran from 25 February 2023when Hurricanes Poua and Chiefs Manawa played the opening match in Levinto 25 March 2023. The tournament was won by Matatū, who defeated Chiefs Manawa 33–31 in the final in Hamilton, earning them their first Super Rugby Aupiki title. That match also resulted in the Chiefs Manawa's first-ever loss in the two-year-old competition.
