Kelmė (; is a city in northwestern Lithuania, a historical region of Samogitia. It has a population of 8,206 and is the administrative center of the Kelmė district municipality. History Kelmė's name may come from the Lithuanian ''kelmynės'', literally: ''the stubby place'', because of the forests that were there at the time of its founding. Kelmė was first mentioned in 1416, the year that Kelmė's first church was built. Prior to World War II, Kelmė ( yi, Kelm) was home to a famous Rabbinical College, the Kelm Talmud Torah. According to an 1897 census, 2,710 of Kelme's 3,914 inhabitants were members of the town's Jewish population, the vast majority of whom were merchants and traders and lived in the town. Most of the Jews in Kelmė rural district were murdered during a mass execution on July 29, 1941. On August 22 a second mass execution occurred. New Millennium Sports, S.L., trading as Kelme (), is a Spanish sports equipment manufacturing company that creates and produces sportswear and athletic shoes. It was founded in 1963 by Diego and José Quiles and its products are destined for the football, futsal, basketball, running, cricket and tennis markets. Kelme is headquartered in Elche (Alicante), Spain, but has other offices worldwide including a United States Division in Conover, North Carolina. Kelme sponsored a professional cycling team, together with the Valencian government. Their products are endorsed by high-profile players such as David James, Josemi and Paul Kelly, and others. Their football boots are made to provide established power, swerve, accuracy and durability. Daniel González Güiza wears the Kelme Masters for RCD Mallorca. Kelme (cycling Team)
Kelme was a professional cycling team based in Spain. History In 1979, Kelme sponsored the mountains classification in the Vuelta a España. The owners of Kelme were not satisfied with the publicity that this produced, so they decided to sponsor a cycling team instead. The Kelme team was formed from another Spanish cycling team, Transmallorca, in 1980. From the 2004 cycling season, the Valencian government took the main sponsorship, Kelme becoming co-sponsor, finally dropping from the team at the end of the year. Despite this, the team kept on running, but its days were numbered when on 20 August 2006, because of doping allegations on Operación Puerto, the Valencian government dropped its sponsorship. This was to become the last year for the oldest team in the peloton. The last couple of years, it was managed by Vicente Belda, a former cyclist who rode for the team from 1980 to 1988.
