Kellar Beach
Miller/Knox Regional Shoreline is a bayside park near the Brickyard Cove neighborhood of the Point Richmond District in Richmond, California. Overview The park is centered on the Miller/Knox lagoon which is depicted on a large 200 foot by 50 foot mural at the Richmond Municipal Natatorium nearby. The park affords panoramic views of the Bay Area especially the Oakland and San Francisco skylines, islands, bridges, and the North Bay mountains. The views are the farthest from the park's high point: Nicholls Knob. The regional shoreline includes Keller Beach on San Pablo Bay in addition to large picnic and barbecue areas, parking and a fishing pier. There is also a former train ferry pier at Ferry Point and other assorted ruins. The park is also home to the Golden State Model Railroad Museum. East Bay Regional Park District
The East Bay Regional Park District (EBRPD) is a special district operating in Alameda County and Contra Costa County, California, within the East Bay area of the San Francisco Bay Area. It maintains and operates a system of regional parks which is the largest urban regional park district in the United States. The administrative office is located in Oakland. As of 2020, EBRPD spans with 73 parks and over of trails. Some of these parks are wilderness areas; others include a variety of visitor attractions, with opportunities for swimming, boating and camping. 2007 San Francisco Bay Oil Spill
The ''Cosco Busan'' oil spill occurred at 08:30 UTC-8 on 7 November 2007 between San Francisco and Oakland, California, in which of IFO-380 heavy fuel oil, sometimes referred to as "bunker fuel", spilled into San Francisco Bay after the container ship ''Cosco Busan'', operated by Fleet Management Limited struck Delta Tower of the San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge in thick fog. Investigators found that maritime pilot John Cota was impaired because of his use of prescription pharmaceuticals while piloting the container vessel, which rendered him unable to use the onboard radar and electronic navigation charts correctly. This occurred despite the fact that the Vessel Traffic Service of the United States Coast Guard warned Cota that the vessel was headed for the bridge. Cota was sentenced to 10 months in federal prison for his role in the incident. Golden State Model Railroad Museum
The Golden State Model Railroad Museum is an operating model railroad exhibit located in Point Richmond, California, within the boundary of the Miller/Knox Regional Shoreline park. It is located in the Brickyard Cove area and features dozens of realistic city and country scenes, with trains from different eras running on several layouts in different scales. It is on the US National Register of Historic Places. Previously based in Oakland, the East Bay Model Engineers Society, which builds and operates the layouts in the Museum, was founded in 1933 and is one of the oldest continually operating model railroad clubs in the country. Construction of the museum began in 1986. The Museum operates models ranging from the steam engines and classic passenger trains to today's modern diesel behemoths and Amtrak passenger trains. Brickyard Cove is an upscale waterfront neighborhood in Richmond, California. History The neighborhood is surrounded by the bluffs of Miller/Knox Regional Shoreline and Kellar Beach park. It is adjacent to Point Richmond. The area is subdivided into three main living areas, mostly condominiums terraced into the hills, private houses on stilts along the spits, and luxury tract homes built in the late 2010s. The area includes the Richmond Yacht Club and Brickyard Cove Marina. The area is home to a fishing pier at Ferry Point, which takes its name from the fact that it used to be the car ferry connecting to San Francisco. Passengers ending their journeys on the transcontinental railroad, which terminated in Richmond at Ferry Point, could take a car ferry to San Francisco. Ferry Point is a cape on the San Francisco Bay in western Richmond, California, Richmond, California, United States. Once the Northern California terminal for the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway, the area has been developed as a regional park. History Ferry Point once served as the western terminus of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway, who constructed the pier in 1900 to facilitate ferry docking to transfer passengers and freight to other locations around the San Francisco Bay. Santa Fe trains began connecting with SP ferries at the Oakland Mole on April 23, 1933, replacing the Point Richmond passenger ferries. San Pablo Bay is a tidal estuary that forms the northern extension of San Francisco Bay in the East Bay and North Bay regions of the San Francisco Bay Area in northern California.
