Kēlen
Kēlen (pronounced ke:.len is a constructed language created by Sylvia Sotomayor in 1998. The language is designed to be a truly ''alien'' language by violating a key linguistic universal — namely that all human languages have verbs. In Kēlen, relationships between noun phrases making up the sentence are expressed by one of four ''relationals''. According to Sotomayor, these relationals perform the functions of verbs but lack any of the semantic content. However, the semantic content found in common verbs, such as those that are semantic primes, can also be found in Kēlen's relationals, which calls into question whether Kēlen is technically verbless. Despite its distinctive grammar, Kēlen is an expressive and intelligible language; Texts written in Kēlen have been translated into other languages by several people other than the creator of the language. Professor Christopher (Kit) Kelen (born 17 December 1958 in Sydney) is an Australian academic, writer, and artist. He is the younger son of Hungarian-born writer Stephen Kelen. Kelen is the author of fourteen volumes of poetry and two novels. István Kelen
Stephen Estaban Kelen OAM ( Hungarian: ''Kelen István''; 21 March 1912 – 1 May 2003) was a Hungarian-Australian sportsman, journalist, author, and playwright. He won seven gold medals at the World Table Tennis Championships in the 1920s and 1930s. After moving to Australia in 1939 he had a long writing career in English. Early life Kelen was born in Budapest in 1912. He studied philosophy at the Charles University in Prague, and later obtained a diploma from the British Association of Industrial Editors. He wrote professionally from the age of 17 and became fluent in Hungarian, Czech and English. József Kelen (Born: József Klein Nagybocskó; January 12, 1892 – March 19, 1938 in Moscow) was a Hungarian mechanical engineer, deputy commissar of the Soviet republic of Hungary, then commissar of the Soviet republic of Hungary, brother of communist politician Ottó Korvin, cousin of Pál Hajdu, husband of the politician Jolán Kelen. and the founder of the Communist Party of Hungary in Budapest. Ron Vander Kelen
Ronald Vander Kelen (November 6, 1939 – August 14, 2016) was an American football quarterback. He played at the collegiate level at the University of Wisconsin–Madison and is best known for his MVP performance in the 1963 Rose Bowl, where he broke several Rose Bowl records, some of which still stand. In that game, he orchestrated a legendary fourth quarter comeback attempt against the USC Trojans in the first #1 (USC) versus #2 (Wisconsin) bowl game in college football history. Tibor Kelen
Tibor Kelen (18 September 1937 – 2001) was a Hungarian opera singer and cantor, a tenor. Biography Tibor Kelen was born in Budapest, Hungary and was a student of the Italian tenor Tito Schipa. He sang in Budapest and throughout Europe, including an engagement at La Scala in Milan. Though primarily known as a lyric tenor, he also sang heroic tenor roles with success. Kelen emigrated to Canada in 1967. In 1969, he sang the role of Alfredo in Giuseppe Verdi's ''La traviata'' with the New York City Opera, winning the company's first Morton Baum Prize as most promising new singer. Giving up opera, he went on to pursue a career as a cantor at Temple Beth El in Cedarhurst, New York where he served for over twenty years. He died at the age of 63 in Saint John's Hospital in Far Rockaway, Queens, following a stroke.
