Keith Nolan (golfer)
Keith Nolan (born 11 January 1973) is an Irish professional golfer. Nolan has been a member of the PGA Tour and Nationwide Tour. Nolan was born in Bray, Ireland. He attended East Tennessee State University (ETSU) in the United States on a golf scholarship, where he studied Communications and was awarded All-American honors. He had a successful amateur golf career which included winning both the Irish matchplay and strokeplay championships and representing Great Britain and Ireland in the 1997 Walker Cup. He also represented Ireland at the 1997 European Amateur Team Championship on home soil at Portmarnock Golf Club, where he won the 36-hole stroke-play competition individually. Since turning professional at the end of 1997, Nolan has competed on both the PGA Tour and its official development tour, the Nationwide Tour. Having found little success in tournament golf, he has also worked as an assistant coach at ETSU as well as caddying for Garrett Willis on the PGA Tour. Amate ... Bray, County Wicklow
Bray ( ) is a coastal town in north County Wicklow, Ireland. It is situated about south of Dublin city centre on the east coast. It has a population of 32,600 making it the ninth largest urban area within Ireland (at the 2016 census). Bray is home to Ardmore Studios, and some light industry is located in the town, with some business and retail parks on its southern periphery. Commuter links between Bray and Dublin are provided by rail, Dublin Bus and the M11 and M50 motorways. Small parts of the town's northern outskirts are in County Dublin. 1997 Walker Cup
The 1997 Walker Cup, the 36th Walker Cup Match, was played on August 9 and 10, 1997, at Quaker Ridge Golf Club in Scarsdale, New York. The event was won by the United States 18 to 6. Format The format for play on Saturday and Sunday was the same. There were four matches of foursomes in the morning and eight singles matches in the afternoon. In all, 24 matches were played. Each of the 24 matches is worth one point in the larger team competition. If a match is all square after the 18th hole extra holes are not played. Rather, each side earns ½ a point toward their team total. The team that accumulates at least 12½ points wins the competition. If the two teams are tied, the previous winner retains the trophy. The 1997 Palmer Cup was held on July 10–12, 1997 at Bay Hill Club and Lodge in Orlando, Florida. The United States won 19 to 5. Format On Thursday, there were four matches of four-ball in the morning, followed by four foursomes matches in the afternoon. Eight singles matches were played on Friday, and eight more on Saturday.. Palmer Cup
The Arnold Palmer Cup is an annual team golf competition for college/university golfers. From 2018 it has been contested between a United States team and an International team representing the rest of the world. The teams consist of 12 men and 12 women. The teams are selected on the basis of nationality, not according to the location of the players' universities. The 2023 event will be held from June 10 to 12 at Laurel Valley Golf Club, near Ligonier, Pennsylvania. History From its foundation in 1997 until 2017 the event was only contested by men. St Andrews Trophy
The St Andrews Trophy is a biennial men's team golf tournament contested between teams of amateur golfers representing Great Britain & Ireland and the Continent of Europe. It takes its name from St Andrews in Scotland. It was first played in 1956 and takes place in even-numbered years; Great Britain & Ireland plays in the United States in the Walker Cup in odd-numbered years. It is staged alternately in Great Britain & Ireland and on the Continent, and is organised by The R&A (an offshoot of The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews) and the European Golf Association. 1995 European Amateur Team Championship
The 1995 European Amateur Team Championship took place 5–9 July at Royal Antwerp Golf Club in Kapellen, Belgium, 20 kilometres north of the city center of Antwerp. It was the 19th men's golf European Amateur Team Championship. Format Each team consisted of six players, playing two rounds of opening stroke-play qualifying competition over two days, counting the five best scores each day for each team. The eight best teams formed flight A, in knock-out match-play over the next three days. The teams were seeded based on their positions after the stroke play. The first placed team were drawn to play the quarter-final against the eight placed team, the second against the seventh, the third against the sixth and the fourth against the fifth.
