Keith Compton
Keith Clive Compton (16 May 1900 – 6 December 1977) was an Australian politician. He was a Labor Party member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1959 to 1965, representing the electorate of Lismore. Compton was born in Maitland and attended West Maitland High School. He trained as an engineer, working as an assistant engineer for the Shire of Kyogle from 1925 to 1930, before taking a position as shire engineer for the Lismore-based Shire of Gundurimba, which he would hold until his election to parliament in 1959. Australian Labor Party (New South Wales Branch)
The Australian Labor Party (New South Wales Branch), also known as NSW Labor, is the New South Wales branch of the Australian Labor Party. The parliamentary leader is elected from and by the members of the party caucus, comprising all party members in the Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council. The party factions have a strong influence on the election of the leader. The leader's position is dependent on the continuing support of the caucus (and party factions) and the leader may be deposed by failing to win a vote of confidence of parliamentary members. By convention, the premier sits in the Legislative Assembly, and is the leader of the party controlling a majority in that house. Lismore is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales. It is represented by Janelle Saffin of the Labor Party. Bruce Duncan
Robert Bruce Duncan (10 October 1928 – 7 May 2005) was an Australian politician. He was the member for Lismore in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1965 to 1988, first as a member of the Country Party and then as an independent. Duncan was born in Lismore to farmer Robert Duncan and his wife Mary Mustard. He was educated at public schools in the Lismore area and became a dairy farmer at Konorigan. On 21 August 1953 he married Marlene Brown, with whom he had two sons. In 1965, Duncan was preselected as one of two Country Party candidates for the marginal Labor seat of Lismore, held by Keith Compton. The Liberal Party also endorsed a candidate, making the seat a three-cornered contest. In the event, Duncan easily led the non-Labor candidates and was able to defeat Compton on the other candidates' preferences. Jack Easter
Jack Stuart Easter (21 November 1907 – 1 January 1979) was an Australian politician who represented the National Party in the Parliament of New South Wales. He was educated at Ardingly College and at Regent Street Polytechnic. He was a company director who during his career served as alderman and mayor of Ballina, and also served as Chairman of Richmond River County Council, and delegate to Northern Rivers County Council and to Far North Coast Weeds Council. He served as an Australian Country Party (N.S.W.) member for Lismore in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly between 1953 and 1959. After being re-elected at the 1959 New South Wales state election by a margin of two votes, Easter's win was disputed in the Court of Disputed Returns where the election was pronounced void, leading to a subsequent by-election. 1946 Australian Federal Election
The 1946 Australian federal election was held in Australia on 28 September 1946. All 74 seats in the House of Representatives and 19 of the 36 seats in the Senate were up for election. The incumbent Labor Party led by Prime Minister Ben Chifley defeated the opposition Liberal–Country coalition, led by Robert Menzies. It was the Liberal Party's first federal election since its creation. This was the first time the Labor party had won a second consecutive election.
