Hypercorrection
In sociolinguistics, hypercorrection is non-standard use of language that results from the over-application of a perceived rule of language-usage prescription. A speaker or writer who produces a hypercorrection generally believes through a misunderstanding of such rules that the form is more "correct", standard, or otherwise preferable, often combined with a desire to appear formal or educated. Linguistic hypercorrection occurs when a real or imagined grammatical rule is applied in an inappropriate context, so that an attempt to be "correct" leads to an incorrect result. It does not occur when a speaker follows "a natural speech instinct", according to Otto Jespersen and Robert J. Menner. Hypercorrection can be found among speakers of less prestigious language varieties who attempt to produce forms associated with high-prestige varieties, even in situations where speakers of those varieties would not. Seydou Keïta (1921/23 – 21 November 2001) was a Malian photographer known for his portraits of people and families he took at his portrait photography studio in Mali's capital, Bamako, in the 1950s. His photographs are widely acknowledged not only as a record of Malian society but also as pieces of art. Biography Keïta was born in 1921 in Bamako, Mali, although the exact date is unknown. He was the oldest in a family of five children. His father Bâ Tièkòró and his uncle Tièmòkò were furniture makers. Keïta developed an interest in photography when his uncle gave him a Kodak Brownie with a film with eight shots in 1935, after returning from a trip to Senegal. In the beginning Keïta worked as both a carpenter and photographer, taking first portraits of his family and friends, later of people in the neighborhood. Idrissa Keita (born 10 April 1977) is an Ivorian former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. He also held Spanish citizenship. Club career Keita was born in Abidjan. Fantamady Keita (born 25 September 1949) is a Malian former professional Association football, footballer who played as a Striker (association football), striker. A Mali national football team, Malian international, he was the leading scorer in the 1972 African Cup of Nations, scoring five goals as Mali reached the final. Career Keita began his playing career with AS Real Bamako, before he went on to spend three years (1972–1975) in France with Stade Rennais F.C., Stade Rennais. Daba Modibo Keïta (born 5 April 1981) is a Malian taekwondo athlete. Keïta has competed in international competitions since 1996, and in 2007 became the heavyweight (+84 kg) division 2007 World Taekwondo Champion in Beijing, and competed in both the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics in the +80 kg class. Personal life Keïta was born in Abidjan ( Côte d'Ivoire) to Malian parents, and was named for the first President of Mali, Modibo Keita. Cheick Keita (born 16 April 1996) is a professional footballer who plays as a left back for Croatian First League club Gorica.
