Kees Akerboom, Sr.
Kees Akerboom Sr. (born 18 April 1952) is a retired Dutch basketball player. Akerboom is the father of Kees Akerboom Jr., who also played as a professional basketball player in the Eredivisie. He was a 2.04 m tall shooting guard. Club career Akerboom started playing basketball at age 16 and joined the Flamingo's Haarlem under Jan Janbroers after two years. Akerboom played with EBBC Den Bosch, with whom he reached a FIBA Saporta Cup Final in 1979. Dutch national team As a member of the senior Dutch national basketball team, Akerboom led the 1977 EuroBasket in scoring, averaging 27 points per game. His performance earned him a selection to the EuroBasket All-Tournament Team. Akerboom is 2nd on the all-time list of games played for the senior Dutch national team, with 182 appearances. Haarlem
Haarlem (; predecessor of ''Harlem'' in English) is a city and municipality in the Netherlands. It is the capital of the province of North Holland. The FIBA Saporta Cup Finals was the championship finals series of the now defunct FIBA Saporta Cup competition. NBB Cup
The Basketball Cup, formerly the NBB Cup ( nl, NBB-Beker), is an annual cup competition for Dutch basketball teams organised by the Basketball Nederland. Every team in the Netherlands can participate by signing up for the preliminary rounds. Professional basketball teams from the Dutch Basketball League (DBL) enter the tournament in the fourth round. From 1977 until 1990 professional teams were not allowed to participate in the competition. The tournament is organized in a knock-out format, with quarter- and semi-finals being two-legged series while the final is played in a single game. Toon Van Helfteren
Anton J. J. "Toon" van Helfteren (born 20 February 1951) is a Dutch former basketball player and current coach of Feyenoord Basketball. Van Helfteren played in the Dutch Basketball League from 1971 till 1990. He was the coach of ZZ Leiden from 2008 till 2014. He also was the coach of the Dutch national basketball team for six years, starting in 2013 and ending in 2019. Professional career A product of BC Paulus Tilburg in his hometown, he joined Punch Delft in 1971. Van Helfteren played 19 seasons in the Dutch Eredivisie from 1971 till 1990. Between 1983 and 1986 van Helfteren was a member of Elmex Leiden, from 1986 to 1990 for DAS Delft. In 1986 Van Helfteren won the Dutch MVP award. In sport, a cap is a player's appearance in a game at international level. The term dates from the practice in the United Kingdom of awarding a cap to every player in an international match of rugby football and association football. In the early days of football, the concept of each team wearing a set of matching shirts had not been universally adopted, so each side would distinguish itself from the other by wearing a specific sort of cap.
