Keep Smiling (1925 Film)
''Keep Smiling'' is a 1925 American silent comedy film directed by Albert Austin and Gilbert Pratt. It stars Monty Banks (real name Mario Bianchi) and Glen Cavender. The film was originally titled "Water Shy". The story features a boy with a fear of water who invents a life preserver that inflates when it comes in contact with water. Promoting his invention, he becomes involved with a wild speedboat race, a crooked mechanic, and the darling daughter of a boating magnate. Plot As described in a film magazine reviews, the Boy (Monty Banks), a yokel of the fishing village, has grown up in fear of the water because his father had been lost at sea. He has invented a lifesaving device which he wishes to submit to James P. Ryan, a wealthy shipping magnate. Albert Austin
Albert Austin (13 December 1882 – 17 August 1953) was an English actor, film star, director, and script writer, remembered for his work in Charlie Chaplin films. Biography Austin was born in Birmingham, Warwickshire, England, and was a music hall performer before going to the United States with Chaplin, both as members of the Fred Karno troupe in 1910. Known for his painted handlebar moustache and acerbic manner, he worked for Chaplin's stock company and played supporting roles in many of his films, often as a foil to the star and working as his assistant director. After the development of sound films, he moved into scriptwriting, directing, and acting, chiefly in comedy shorts. Among other things, he assisted Chaplin in developing the plot of '' The Adventurer'' (1917). However, he only received screen credit as a collaborator once, for '' City Lights'' (1931). Glen Cavender
Glen Cavender (September 19, 1883 – February 9, 1962) was an American film actor. He appeared in more than 250 films between 1914 and 1949. Biography Glen Cavender was born in Tucson, Arizona, and died in Hollywood, California. He started his acting career in vaudeville shows. Cavender belonged to the original Keystone Cops and was a regular in numerous Mack Sennett comedies. He also worked as a director for three Mack Sennett films between 1914 and 1916. During the 1920s, Cavender worked for the film studios Educational and Christie and appeared in Buster Keaton's film classic '' The General'' (1926) as the antagonistic Union Captain Anderson. The advance of sound film in the late 1920s damaged his career and, formerly a well-known actor, Cavender only played minor roles until his retirement in 1949. Martha Minerva Franklin (October 29, 1870 – September 26, 1968) was one of the first people to campaign for racial equality in nursing. Early life Franklin was born in New Milford, Connecticut, to Mary E. Gauson and Henry J. Franklin. She had a sister, Florence, and a brother, William. Her father had been a soldier in the Union Army during the Civil War. Franklin graduated from Meriden Public High School in 1890 as one of few African American members of her class. In 1895, she moved to Philadelphia to attend the Women's Hospital Training School for Nurses. She graduated in December 1897 and as the only African American member of her graduating class.
