Kazbegi Marathon
Kazbegi Marathon is an annual trail marathon held in Georgia in September. The marathon is certified by International Trail Running Association (ITRA) and courses through the Caucasus Mountains in the northern part of the country, the starting and finishing points are in the town of Kazbegi located on the historical military road on the foot of Kazbegi Mountain. The Kazbegi Marathon is both the largest as well as the first racing event held in the Caucasus. Over the years since 2010 Kazbegi Marathon offered different routes. The 2021 edition of Kazbegi Marathon will feature a fun run (7 kilometers), SkyRace distance, 15km (with the elevation gain of 1,300m) and an Extreme distance, 25km (with the elevation gain of 2,500m) which requires pre-qualification of each runner. Kazbegi
Stepantsminda ( ka, სტეფანწმინდა; formerly Kazbegi, ), is a townlet in the Mtskheta-Mtianeti region of north-eastern Georgia. Historically and ethnographically, the town is part of the Khevi province. It is the center of the Kazbegi Municipality. Etymology Stepantsminda was named after a Georgian Orthodox monk named Stephan, who constructed a hermitage at this location, as well as advicing people to relocate a little bit south in order to avoid the effect of regular snow avalanche. Geography and climate The town is located along the banks of the Terek River, to the north of Tbilisi at an elevation of 1,740 meters (5,710 feet) above sea level. Trail Running
Trail running is a sport-activity which combines running, and, where there are steep gradients, hiking, that is run "on any unpaved surface". It is similar to both mountain and fell running (also known as hill running). Mountain running may, however, include paved sections. Trail running normally takes place in warm climates, or on good paths, or tracks which are relatively easy to follow, and does not necessarily involve the significant amounts of ascent, or need for navigating skills, normal in fell running. SkyRace
Skyrunning is a sport of mountain running up to or exceeding where the minimum average incline is 6% over the total distance and at least 5% has an incline of 30% or more. The climbing difficulty does not exceed II grade UIAA. Poles, crampons and hands may be used to aid progress. The governing body is the International Skyrunning Federation. Mount Kazbek
Mount Kazbek or Mount Kazbegi is a dormant stratovolcano and one of the major mountains of the Caucasus, located on the Russian-Georgian border - in Russia's North Ossetia region and Georgia's Kazbegi District. At 5,034 m (16,515 ft) high, it is one of the highest peaks in Russia and the third-highest peak in Georgia (after Mount Shkhara and Janga). Kazbegi is also the second-highest volcanic summit in the Caucasus, after Mount Elbrus. Terek (river)
The Terek (; , Tiyrk; , Tərč; , ; , ; , ''Terk''; , ; , ) is a major river in the Northern Caucasus. It originates in the Mtskheta-Mtianeti region of Georgia and flows through North Caucasus region of Russia into the Caspian Sea.
