Kazanlı
Kazanlı is a town in the greater Mersin municipality, Turkey. Geography Kazanlı is approximately east of Mersin center at . It is a Mediterranean coastal town. East of the town, there are small settlements surrounded by fields. Towards west and north of the town there are industrial plants and some neighborhoods of Mersin. Population Population of the town was 10,120 (2007 estimate). Since 2007, the town has been incorporated into the Akdeniz intracity district of Mersin. The number of buildings of the town is approximately 1,600. Economy The town was the former port of Tarsus. (''see'' Aulae (Cilicia)) But now fishing has replaced export business. Another economic activity is agriculture. The fertile fields around Kazanlı are well known for forced crop, especially vegetables. Aulae (Cilicia)
Aulae or Aulai ( grc, Αὐλαί) was a town in ancient Cilicia, and now is an archaeological site close to Mersin, Turkey. Geography The site seems to be situated in Kazanlı, a neighborhood of Mersin. History Stephanus of Byzantium had mentioned Aulae as a port of Cilicia between Tarsus, Mersin, Tarsus and Anchiale, which was a settlement close to Zephyrion (present Mersin centrum). Although Hansgerd Hellenkemper initially proposed a place slightly west of Kazanlı for Aulae, recent findings fixed Kazanlı as the location of Aulae. Findings Up to 2012, the only place of historical importance in Kazanlı was that of Topraktepe tumulus to the north of the settlement. In 2012, a group of amphoras were found in Kazanlı close to Mediterranean coast. Most of the amphoras were LR1 (Late Roman) amphoras. There were also LR4 amphoras as well. Radyo Çukurova
Radio Çukurova ( tr, Radyo Çukurova or TRT Çukurova Radyosu) is a regional radio network of the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT). Geography The broadcast area includes the provinces of Mersin, Adana, Hatay, Osmaniye and parts of Kahramanmaraş, Kayseri, Niğde, Karaman and Konya. Since most of provinces are in Çukurova region (Cilicia of the antiquity) the network is named Çukurova. The radio studio is in Mersin and the main medium wave (MW) transmitter is in Kazanlı a suburb of Mersin. But there are also various FM transmitters frequencies of which are shown below. History In 1962, a low power (2 kW) radio station was established for the city Adana. The transmitter which was housed next to radio studio was a Turkish-made transmitter. Akdeniz is a municipality and district governorate in Greater Mersin, Turkey. Mersin is one of the 30 Metropolitan centers in Turkey with more than one municipality within city borders. Now in Mersin there are four second-level municipalities in addition to Greater Mersin (''büyükşehir'') municipality. History Mersin was declared metropolitan centre in 1993.
