Kayode Sofola
Kayode Sofola, SAN, is a Nigerian jurist and former Chairman of United Bank for Africa. Education and career Kayode obtained a bachelor's degree in law from University of Birmingham in 1974 and master's degree in law from the University of London in 1976. In 1996, he attained the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria and in 2004, he became the Chairman of the United Bank for Africa, a position he held until 2007. He is currently a member of the board of directors of United Courier Limited. He was the chairman of the five-man Tax Appeal Tribunal that ordered ExxonMobil to pay the sum of 83.4 million dollars (13.09 bn) education tax to the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS). Kehinde Sofola
Chief Kehinde Sofola, QC, SAN, MON, CON (10 March 1924 – 25 March 2007) was a prominent Nigerian Jurist and Minister of Justice during the Second Nigerian Republic. Early life and career Chief Sofola was born on March 10, 1924 as one of the second of three sets of twins in Ogun State southwestern Nigeria. He was called to the English bar on September 11, 1954. He was the founder of Kehinde Sofola's Chamber a law firm in Lagos State where Ayotunde Phillips, the Chief Judge of Lagos State began her career on September 1976. Chief Idowu Sofola, SAN, MON (29 September 1934 – 23 March 2018) was a Nigerian jurist, Bencher and president of the Nigerian Bar Association. He was Previously the Chairman of the Nigerian Body of Benchers. Early life Chief Idowu was born on September 1934 at Ikenne, a town in Ogun State in southwestern Nigeria. He was enrolled at St. Saviour's School, Ikenne in 1945 for his primary education. In 1952, he was admitted into Eko Boys High School, where he completed his Secondary education. Upon completion of his secondary school education, he joined the Lagos State Judiciary in 1958 as a Court Clerk, having decided this to be a pathway to understanding the practice of Law. He thereafter journeyed to the United Kingdom where he obtained a bachelor's degree in Law from the London School of Commerce and Holborn College. The Second Nigerian Republic was a brief formation of the Nigerian state which succeeded the military governments formed after the overthrow of the first republic. Background Contested elections and political turbulence in the Western region ended Nigeria's First republic in 1966 with the overthrow of the government by majors of the Nigerian army. A unitary style of government was subsequently decreed into law. After a counter-coup six months later, the country was drawn into a civil war between federal forces and Biafran forces (Eastern region). Just before the war, 12 new states were created from the four regions.
