Kaynak Yayınları (English: ''Resource Publications'') is an independent publishing company based in Istanbul, Turkey. It was founded in 1982. It has published authors such as Halil Berktay, Doğu Perinçek and Oktay Yıldırım. Another publishing company linked to the Gülen movement The Gülen movement () or Hizmet movement () is an Islamist fraternal movement. It is a sub-sect of Sunni Islam based on a Nursian theological perspective as reflected in Fethullah Gülen's religious teachings. It is referred to by its membe ..., which had the same name, has been banned in various state libraries since coup d'état attempt in Turkey. This led confusion as books of Kaynak Yayınları (one that isn't related to Gülen) was collected out at first as well as the Gülen-related one. Halil Berktay
Halil Berktay (born August 27, 1947) is a Turkish historian at Ibn Haldun University and was columnist for the daily ''Taraf''. Life and career Halil Berktay was born in İzmir into an intellectual Turkish communist family. Both of his parents were Cretan Turks. His father, Erdoğan Berktay, was a member of the old clandestine Communist Party of Turkey. As a result of this influence, Halil Berktay remained a Maoist for two decades before he became "an independent left-intellectual". Oktay Yıldırım
Oktay Yıldırım (born 28 September 1971) is a former member of Turkey's Special Warfare Department, and was a defendant in the Ergenekon trials as well as the Turkish Council of State shooting. On 5 August 2013, then aged nearly 42, Yıldırım was sentenced to 33 years and 10 months. Yıldırım was a founder in 2005 of the Kuvayı Milliye Derneği, and was head of its Istanbul branch. The Gülen movement () or Hizmet movement () is an Islamist fraternal movement. It is a sub-sect of Sunni Islam based on a Nursian theological perspective as reflected in Fethullah Gülen's religious teachings. It is referred to by its members as the "Service" ("") or "Community" ("") and it originated in Turkey around the late 1950s. It is institutionalized in 180 countries through educational institutions as well as media outlets, finance companies, for-profit health clinics, and affiliated foundations that have a combined net worth in the range of 20–50 billion dollars as of 2015. Its teachings are considered conservative in Turkey but some have praised the movement as a pacifist, modern-oriented version of Islam, and an alternative to more extreme schools of Islam such as Salafism. 2016 Turkish Coup D'état Attempt
In the evening of 15 July 2016, a faction within the Turkish Armed Forces, organized as the Peace at Home Council, attempted a coup d'état against state institutions, including the government and president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. They attempted to seize control of several places in Ankara, Istanbul, Marmaris and elsewhere, such as the Asian side entrance of the Bosphorus Bridge, but failed to do so after forces and civilians loyal to the state defeated them. The Council cited an erosion of Secularism in Turkey, secularism, elimination of democratic rule, disregard for human rights, and Turkey's loss of credibility in the international arena as reasons for the coup.
