Kayla Bell
Michaela (Kayla) Bell (born 1996) is a 1.5 point British wheelchair basketball player who played for Great Britain at the Osaka Cup in Japan in 2017 and 2018. Her first major international tournament was the 2018 Wheelchair Basketball World Championship in Hamburg, where she won silver. Biography Michaela (Kayla) Bell comes from Thatcham. She began playing wheelchair basketball at the age of nine after she was introduced to the game by a teaching assistant. She is classified as a 1.5 point player, and initially played for the Thames Valley Kings, which she represented in the Under 15 and Under 19 competitions in the Lord Taverners Junior league. She later represented the South East region in the National Junior Championships, England South in the National School games championships, and played for the Sheffield Steelers. 2018 Wheelchair Basketball World Championship
The 2018 Wheelchair Basketball World Championship was held at the Edel-optics.de Arena in Hamburg, Germany, from 16 to 26 August 2018. Both men's and women's tournaments were held, with 12 women's and 16 men's teams competing, representing 19 different nations. Each team selected 12 players for the tournament. The men's competition was won by Great Britain, with the United States winning silver and Australia winning bronze. The women's competition was won by the Netherlands, with Great Britain winning silver and the host nation winning bronze. Medallists This was the best ever performance at a wheelchair basketball world championship by both the British men's and women's teams. Definition This classification is for wheelchair basketball. Classification for the sport is done by the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation. Classification is extremely important in wheelchair basketball because when players point totals are added together, they cannot exceed fourteen points per team on the court at any time. Thatcham
Thatcham is an historic market town and civil parish in the English county of Berkshire, centred 3 miles (5 km) east of Newbury, 14 miles (24 km) west of Reading and 54 miles (87 km) west of London. Geography Thatcham straddles the River Kennet, the Kennet and Avon Canal and the A4. Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme
The Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme, known as TASS, is a scheme of Sport England (UK government-funded) to find and support prospective talented athletes. History Over five hundred athletes are supported by this scheme, in around thirty sports (in high performance sport). The scheme began in 2004. Operation It is run by Northumbria University in Newcastle upon Tyne. Athletes are over 16. Prospective athletes are nominated by the national governing body for that sport. These athletes are at the top of their Sport England Talent Pathway, and must be in full-time education. Athletes are nominated only by the governing bodies, and cannot make individual applications. The scheme is largely delivered by English universities. The scholarship is worth up to £3,500 a year. Some athletes can also be funded (additionally) through UK Sport.
