Kayak For A Cause
Kayak for a Cause was a non-profit kayaking fundraiser that took place from 2001 to 2012 on Long Island Sound on the eastern coast of the United States. A group of several-hundred kayakers would cross the Sound from Norwalk, Connecticut, to the north shore of Long Island and return as they raise money for local and national charities. The route for the crossing is 12.5 miles long and leaves from Calf Pasture Beach in East Norwalk, Connecticut, and lands in Crab Meadow Park in Northport, New York. Depending on factors such as tides, current, and wind, the route can take an average paddler between two and four hours to complete. To participate in the event, the organization required that paddlers be "comfortable in very open waters", and in reasonably good shape. Dickey Betts
Forrest Richard Betts (born December 12, 1943) is an American guitarist, singer, songwriter, and composer best known as a founding member of The Allman Brothers Band. Early in his career, he collaborated with Duane Allman, introducing melodic twin guitar harmony and counterpoint which "rewrote the rules for how two rock guitarists can work together, completely scrapping the traditional rhythm/lead roles to stand toe to toe". Following Allman's death in 1971, Betts assumed sole lead guitar duties during the peak of the group's commercial success in the mid-1970s. Betts was the writer and singer on the Allmans' hit single " Ramblin' Man". He also gained renown for composing instrumentals, with one appearing on most of the group's albums, including "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" and " Jessica" (which was later used as the theme to ''Top Gear''). The Wailers Band are a reggae band formed by Aston Barrett in 1989, one of several spinoffs from Bob Marley and the Wailers. History After the death of Bob Marley in 1981, the Wailers continued, led by Aston Barrett and Junior Marvin. Ryan Shaw
Ryan Christopher Shaw (born December 25, 1980) is an American soul musician from Georgia. He is part of the soul-revival movement in music and has been nominated for a Grammy three times, in the category of Best Traditional R&B Performance. Biography Shaw is from Decatur, Georgia. He learned to sing at the Free Church of God in Christ of Atlanta, Georgia and began singing harmony in a church choir at age five. In a 2007 interview, Shaw stated "My church was very traditional, and for a long time the only songs I learned were gospel songs." The Neville Brothers were an American R&B/soul/funk group, formed in 1976 in New Orleans, Louisiana. History The group notion started in 1976, when the four brothers of the Neville family, Art (1937–2019), Charles (1938–2018), Aaron (b. 1941), and Cyril (b. 1948) came together to take part in the recording session of the Wild Tchoupitoulas, a Mardi Gras Indian group led by the Nevilles' uncle, George Landry ("Big Chief Jolly").
