Kauno Žalgiris FA Stadium
FK Kauno Žalgiris Football Academy Stadium, formerly known as Kaunas Football School Stadium and Sports School Tauras Stadium, is a football stadium located in Kaunas, Lithuania, and is the temporary home of A Lyga club FK Kauno Žalgiris. The stadium has a current capacity of 500 spectators. Usage Stadium is owned and operated by FK Kauno Žalgiris, who took over the previous owner - Sports School SM Tauras in 2020. Throughout the years it was used by various local amateur clubs playing in the II Lyga and lower divisions, including FBK Kaunas and Kauno Žalgiris. Kauno Žalgiris have returned to the stadium in 2019 due to ongoing reconstruction of the Darius and Girėnas Stadium. Kaunas
Kaunas (; ; also see other names) is the second-largest city in Lithuania after Vilnius and an important centre of Lithuanian economic, academic, and cultural life. Futbolo klubas Kauno Žalgiris (''Football club Kauno Žalgiris'') is a professional Association football, football club based in Kaunas, Lithuania, that competes in the A lyga, the top tier of Lithuania. A Lyga
The A Lyga is the top division of professional football in Lithuania. The A Lyga is an abbreviation of Aukščiausia lyga meaning Highest League. It is organized by Lithuanian Football Federation LFF ( lt, Lietuvos Futbolo Federacija). The Aukščiausia lyga also existed during the Soviet period of Lithuania, but was not considered to be a professional league until dissolution of the Soviet Union. The league size has varied between 8 and 12 teams in the recent seasons, however 2020 A Lyga the league featured record low of only 6 teams. But in the latest 2021 A Lyga season there were 10 teams. II Lyga
Lithuanian Football Federation's II lyga, LFF II lyga – the third tier Lithuanian football championship. As of 2021, the II lyga is a single league, consisting of planned 16 teams. The two top teams gain promotion to the I Lyga. Until the end of 2020 season the league consisted of the Southern Zone and the Western Zone. The Northern Zone and the Eastern Zone existed in some past seasons, but were done away with due to the dwindling number of participating clubs. League Structure Southern Zone The zone has existed since 1999 until 2020. Kaunas County Football Federation was in charge of the competition in this zone. Kauno futbolo ir beisbolo klubas, commonly known as FBK Kaunas, was a Lithuanian football club from the city of Kaunas. History Banga Kaunas (1960–1993) Originally the team was founded in 1960 as Banga Kaunas and played its first three years in the Soviet First League. Afterwards the club decided to play in the Lithuanian SSR Championship and they did so until 1990. In that period they won two Lithuanian SSR Championship's. One in 1986 and another in 1989. When Lithuania regained independence in 1991 A Lyga was created and they played as Banga Kaunas until 1993 before the club changed its name. Darius And Girėnas Stadium
Darius and Girėnas stadium ( lt, Dariaus ir Girėno stadionas) is a multi-use stadium in the Ąžuolynas park in Žaliakalnis district of Kaunas, Lithuania. The all-seater stadium holds 15,315 people. In 1998 the stadium was renovated according to UEFA regulations, and in 2005 it was modernised with the installation of the biggest stadium television screen in the Baltic states. The latest renovation started in 2018 and ended in 2022. It is the biggest stadium in the Baltic states. It hosts Lithuanian football matches as well as international athletics championships. An air-supported (or air-inflated) structure is any building that derives its structural integrity from the use of internal pressurized air to inflate a pliable material (i.e. structural fabric) envelope, so that air is the main support of the structure, and where access is via airlocks. The first air-supported structure built in history was the radome manufactured at the Cornell Aeronautical Laboratory in 1948 by Walter Bird. The concept was implemented on a large scale by David H. Geiger with the United States pavilion at Expo '70 in Osaka, Japan in 1970. It is usually dome-shaped, since this shape creates the greatest volume for the least amount of material.
