Kaumudi Teacher
Kaumudi teacher (16 July 1917, Vayakkara - 4 August 2009) was a Gandhian and an Indian freedom activist from Kannur, Kerala. She was known for voluntarily donating her ornaments to Gandhi when the latter visited Vatakara on 14 January 1934 which was acknowledged by Gandhi when he wrote an article "Kaumudi's renunciation" in Young India. Kaumudi Teacher died on 4 August 2009 at Kadachira in Kannur. Early life Kaumudi Teacher, a Gandhian, renounced gold ornaments to Mahatma Gandhi in the year 1934, for the cause of freedom struggle. Kaumudi was born in a royal family to A K Ramavarma Raja and Devaki Kettilamma on May 17, 1917, at Vayakkara in Kannur. She later began to take interest in the India freedom struggle and pledged to not wear ornaments after her act of renunciation for the cause of Harijans in 1934. Vayakkara
Vayakkara is a village located in Payyanur Taluk of Kannur district in the Indian state of Kerala. Demographics As of 2011 Census, Vayakkara village had population of 18,687 where 8,986 are males and 9,701 are females. Vayakkara village has an area of with 4,493 families residing in it. Sevagram
Sevagram (meaning "A town for/of service") is a town in the state of Maharashtra, India. It was the place of Mahatma Gandhi's ashram and his residence from 1936 to his death in 1948. After Sabarmati, Sevagram Ashram holds immense importance due to the residence of Mahatma Gandhi. Overview Sevagram, originally Segaon, is a small village, located about 8 km from Wardha. Gandhi set up what eventually became an ashram in the outskirts of the village. Seth Jamnalal Bajaj of Wardha, a disciple of Gandhi, made available to the ashram about 300 acres (1.2 km2) of land. Near the ashram there is a museum where artifacts of India's freedom struggle are preserved. Gandhians
The followers of Mahatma Gandhi, the greatest figure of the Indian independence movement, are called Gandhians. Gandhi's legacy includes a wide range of ideas ranging from his dream of ideal India (or ''Rama Rajya)'', economics, environmentalism, women rights, animal rights, spirituality, the truth, nonviolence, asceticism and others. Malayali People
The Malayali people () (also spelt Malayalee and also known by the demonym Keralite) are a Dravidian ethnolinguistic group originating from the present-day state of Kerala in India, occupying its southwestern Malabar coast.
