Sha Tin Valley
Sha Tin District is one of the 18 districts of Hong Kong. As one of the 9 districts located in the New Territories, it covers the areas of Sha Tin, Tai Wai, Ma On Shan, Fo Tan, Siu Lek Yuen, and Ma Liu Shui. The district is the most populous district in Hong Kong, with a population of 659,794 as per 2016 by-census, having a larger population than many states or dependencies including Iceland, Malta, Montenegro and Brunei. The Sha Tin District covers approximately 69.4 km2 (26.8 sq. mi), including Sha Tin New Town and several country parks. Built mostly on reclaimed land in Sha Tin Hoi, the well-developed Sha Tin New Town comprises mainly residential areas along the banks of the Shing Mun River Channel. Kak Tin
Kak Tin () is a village in the Tai Wai area of Sha Tin District, Hong Kong. By extension, the area around the village is also called Kak Tin. Location Kak Tin village is located south of Sun Chui Estate and Sun Tin Wai Estate. It is at the south of Shing Mun River and at the foot of Lion Rock. History Kak Tin was one of the five Punti villages in Sha Tin founded about 400 years ago by Tsang () clanspeople, originally from Shandong. The first ancestor Tsang Nam-hin () moved to Shipai in Dongguan, Guangdong province. He later moved to the Sha Tin area, first in Tai Wai, then in Tin Sam, and finally settled in Kak Tin in the late Ming dynasty (1368-1644). Administration Cheung Lek Mei is a recognized village under the New Territories Small House Policy. It is one of the villages represented within the Sha Tin Rural Committee. For electoral purposes, Cheung Lek Mei is part of the Fo Tan constituency, which was formerly represented by Lui Kai-wing until July 2021.
