Katy Jarochowicz
Katy Jarochowicz (born 6 March 1981) is an Australian professional golfer and businesswoman. Jarochowicz plays mostly on the Australian-based ALPG Tour, and at times in the US on the LPGA Tour. She is best known for her achievements as number 1 Amateur in her youth and winner of the Texas Open. At 4 years old, Jarochowicz received her first golfing lesson. During her teenage years, she discovered that golf was to be her career and attended the Jack Newton Junior Golf (JNJG). She represented Australia internationally as an amateur before turning professional in 2004. Jarochowicz later toured Australia & New Zealand on the ALPG Tour and throughout Europe on the Ladies European Tour. A professional golfer is somebody who receives payments or financial rewards in the sport of golf that are directly related to their skill or reputation. A person who earns money by teaching or playing golf is traditionally considered a "golf pro," most of whom are teachers/coaches. The professional golfer status is reserved for people who play, rather than teach, golf for a career. In golf, the distinction between amateurs and professionals is rigorously maintained. ALPG Tour
The WPGA Tour of Australasia, formerly known as the ALPG Tour, is a professional golf tour for women which is based in Australia. WPGA stands for Women's Professional Golfers' Association. The tour was founded as the Ladies Professional Golf Association of Australia (LPGAA) in 1972 by Alan Gillott, who also later on founded ''The Golfer'' newspaper, a free publication provided to golfers and golf clubs, Australia-wide. The LPGAA switched to ALPG Tour in 1991. The first events featured twelve competitors, and the early years were a struggle. However the long-term trend was of gradual expansion and by 2004 there were over 150 members. The season features about a dozen tournaments, usually played over the Australian summer between November and March. The Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) is an American organization for female golfers. The organization is headquartered at the LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Florida, and is best known for running the LPGA Tour, a series of weekly golf tournaments for elite female professional golfers from around the world. Texas Women's Open
The Texas Women's Open is a golf tournament, played in the Fort Worth, Texas area. From 1950 to 1954, it was an LPGA Tour event, although it was first played in 1933. It was revived by the North Texas section of the PGA of America in 2001. It was played at several courses in Fort Worth from 1933 to 1955 and in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex since 2001. The ''Illawarra Mercury'' is a daily newspaper serving the Illawarra region of New South Wales, Australia. Jack Newton
Jack Newton OAM (30 January 1950 – 14 April 2022) was an Australian professional golfer. He won the Buick-Goodwrench Open on the PGA Tour and won three times on the European Tour, including the British PGA Matchplay Championship in 1974. He won the Australia Open in 1979 and a number of other tournaments in Australia, New Zealand and Africa. Twice, he was a runner-up in major championships, losing the 1975 Open Championship, in a playoff against Tom Watson, and the 1980 Masters Tournament, where he finished four strokes behind the winner, Seve Ballesteros. In 1983 Newton had a near-fatal accident when he walked into the spinning propeller of an airplane, losing his right arm and eye. Golf career Newton was born in Cessnock, New South Wales. Ladies European Tour
The Ladies European Tour is a professional golf tour for women which was founded in 1978. It is based at Buckinghamshire Golf Club near London in England. Like many UK-based sports organisations it is a company limited by guarantee, a legal structure which enables it to focus on maximising returns to its members through prize money, rather than on making profits for investors. The tour is run by a Board of Directors and a Players' Council. Most of the players on the tour are European, with members from more than 40 countries internationally. Espirito Santo Trophy
The Espirito Santo Trophy (World Women's Amateur Team Championships) is a biennial world amateur team golf championship for women organised by the International Golf Federation. The inaugural event was held in 1964. It was instituted by the French Golf Federation in an agreement with the United States Golf Association. It was planned by Lally Segard, at the time known as Vicomtesse de Saint Sauveur, from France and Mrs. Henri Prunaret from America. Segard also asked her friends Ricardo and Silvia Espirito Santo, from Portugal, to donate a trophy for the event, which they did. They had originally bought the golden cup, which had belonged to Tsar Nicholas II of Russia, for an international Portuguese event that was not played anymore. 2004 Espirito Santo Trophy
The 2004 Espirito Santo Trophy took place 20–23 October at Rio Mar Country Club, on its River Course and Ocean Course, in Río Grande, Puerto Rico. It was the 21st women's golf World Amateur Team Championship for the Espirito Santo Trophy. The tournament was a 72-hole stroke play team event. There were 48 team entries, each with two or three players. Each team played two rounds at the River Course and two rounds at the Ocean Course in different orders, but all the leading teams played the fourth round at the Ocean Course. The best two scores for each round counted towards the team total. Team Sweden won the Trophy for their first title. The silver medal was shared between team Canada and team United States, who finished tied second, three strokes back. Tasman Cup
The Tasman Cup was an amateur women's team golf tournament, played between Australia and New Zealand from 1933 to 2016. From 2007 to 2012 it was played as part of the Trans Tasman Cup. In 2016 the trophy was contested using scores from the two qualifying rounds of the Australian Women's Amateur. History The first contest was held at Victoria Golf Club in Melbourne in 1933. It was played on 1 September, after the qualifying rounds of the Australian Women's Amateur but before the start of the match-play stage. Four singles were played in the morning and two foursomes in the afternoon.
