Bankura District
Bankura district (Pron: bãkuɽa) is an administrative unit in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is part of Medinipur division—one of the five administrative divisions of West Bengal. Bankura district is surrounded by Purba Bardhaman district and Paschim Bardhaman district in the north, Purulia district in the west, Jhargram district and Paschim Medinipur district in the south, and some part of Hooghly district in the east. Damodar River flows in the northern part of Bankura district and separates it with the major part of Burdwan district. The district head quarter is located in Bankura town. The district has been described as the "connecting link between the plains of Bengal on the east and Chota Nagpur plateau on the west." Saumitra Khan
Saumitra Khan (born 8 December 1980) is an Indian politician representing the Bishnupur constituency of West Bengal in the Lok Sabha since 2014. He joined Bharatiya Janata Party in 2019 and currently (as of December 2020) serves as the president of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha West Bengal. Khan started his career with Indian National Congress party and was elected to West Bengal Legislative Assembly from Katulpur constituency. In 2013, he switched to the ruling Trinamool Congress. In the 2014 Indian general election, he was elected to the Lok Sabha from Bishnupur constituency. In early 2019, he defected to Bharatiya Janata Party, the ruling party at the centre. Following his defection, a police case was lodged against him for allegedly extorting money from job aspirants. The Kolkata High Court prevented him from entering his constituency. 2021 West Bengal Legislative Assembly Election
The 2021 West Bengal Legislative Assembly election for 292 of the 294 constituencies in West Bengal was held between 27 March to 29 April 2021 in eight phases. Voting for the two remaining constituencies was delayed to 30 September 2021. The incumbent All India Trinamool Congress government led by Mamata Banerjee won the election by a large margin, despite opinion polls generally predicting a close race against the Bharatiya Janata Party, which became the official opposition with 77 seats. 2016 West Bengal Legislative Assembly Election
A Legislative Assembly election was held in 2016 for the 294 seats (out of 295 seats) of the '' Vidhan Sabha'' (Vidhān Sabhā) in the state of West Bengal in India. The All India Trinamool Congress under Mamata Banerjee won 211 seats, and thus was reelected with an enhanced majority. Like in the 2011 election, the poll was held in six phases, with the first phase divided into two days.
