Katrina Elayne Steward
Katrina Elayne Steward (born October 26, 1979) is an American choreographer, dancer, singer and actress. She was the 2005–2006 Miss Black Arkansas USA in the Miss Black USA Pageant. Steward is a community activist, with a focus on Celebrating Diversity, and has been awarded her own day, in the State of Arkansas. She is the first choreographer in the city of Fort Smith, Arkansas to have an all black Baptist praise dance group, worship in a Catholic church. Steward worked closely with Governor Mike Huckabee during Hurricane Katrina, during her time as Miss Black Arkansas USA 2005-2006. Steward graduated from Northside High School in Fort Smith, Arkansas and attended the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith. Miss Black USA Pageant
The Miss Black USA Scholarship Pageant is a national scholarship competition for young women of African descent that was founded in 1986 by Karen Arrington. While Ms. Arrington has a long-standing history of hosting a national Miss Black USA Scholarship Pageant, her system has not been exclusive in doing so consecutively. As indicated by the chart below, there have been some years where "no pageant was held" by Ms. Arrington's State of Maryland organized non-profit, for example in years such as 1998, 1999 and 2000. However, similar to Miss USA and Miss America both being national systems, there have been other non-profits to host national scholarship pageants to celebrate Black women, with documented queens. Fort Smith is the third-largest city in Arkansas and one of the two county seats of Sebastian County. As of the 2020 Census, the population was 89,142. It is the principal city of the Fort Smith, Arkansas–Oklahoma Metropolitan Statistical Area, a region of 298,592 residents that encompasses the Arkansas counties of Crawford, Franklin, and Sebastian, and the Oklahoma counties of Le Flore and Sequoyah. Good Company Players
Good Company Players (GCP) is an amateur dinner theatre in Fresno, California. It consists of Roger Rocka's Dinner Theater, which primarily stages musicals, and the 2nd Space Theatre, which primarily produces straight plays. Between the two theaters, GCP mounts 12 shows a year; it has produced over 450 productions since it was founded. Notable alumni include Audra McDonald, Heidi Blickenstaff and Chris Colfer. History GCP organized as a company and dinner theatre in 1973. Its charter executive board consisted of Dan Pessano, Chris Moad, Cathy Glenn, Ron Harlan and Steven Pilibos.:322 The company's first production was Stephen Sondheim's ''A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum,'' which opened on June 26, 1973 at Fresno's Hilton Hotel. ''Hairspray'' is an American musical with music by Marc Shaiman and lyrics by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, with a book by Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan, based on John Waters's 1988 film of the same name. The songs include 1960s-style dance music and "downtown" rhythm and blues. Set in 1962 Baltimore, Maryland, the production follows teenage Tracy Turnblad's dream to dance on ''The Corny Collins Show'', a local TV dance program based on the real-life '' Buddy Deane Show''. When Tracy wins a role on the show, she becomes a celebrity overnight, leading to social change as Tracy campaigns for the show's integration.
