Katri Kaarlonen
Katri Kaarlonen ( Kallio; 28 March 1915 – 1 October 2008) was a Finnish politician, who served as a Member of Parliament for the Turku Province (south) constituency (now Varsinais-Suomi), representing the Centre Party. She was a member of the electoral college in the 1962 and 1968 presidential elections, helping to re-elect her party's candidate, Urho Kekkonen. Outside politics, Kaarlonen worked as a teacher of gardening, as well as running the family farm in Perniö. In 1985, she was granted the honorary title of ''Opetusneuvos'' ( 'Teaching counselor'). Her father was the 4th President of Finland, Kyösti Kallio. The Parliament of Finland ( ; ) is the unicameral and supreme legislature of Finland, founded on 9 May 1906. In accordance with the Constitution of Finland, sovereignty belongs to the people, and that power is vested in the Parliament. The Parliament consists of 200 members, 199 of whom are elected every four years from 13 multi-member districts electing 7 to 36 members using the proportional D'Hondt method. In addition, there is one member from Åland. Legislation may be initiated by either the Government or one of the members of Parliament. The Parliament passes legislation, decides on the state budget, approves international treaties, and supervises the activities of the government. Urho Kekkonen
Urho Kaleva Kekkonen (; 3 September 1900 – 31 August 1986), often referred to by his initials UKK, was a Finnish politician who served as the eighth and longest-serving president of Finland from 1956 to 1982. He also served as Prime Minister of Finland, prime minister (1950–53, 1954–56), and held various other cabinet positions. He was the third and most recent president from the Centre Party (Finland), Agrarian League/Centre Party. Head of state for nearly 26 years, he dominated Finnish politics for 31 years overall. Holding a large amount of power, he won his later elections with little opposition and has often been classified as an Autocracy, autocrat. Nevertheless, he remains a respected figure. Kerttu Saalasti
Kerttu Saalasti ( Kallio; 21 September 1907 – 31 January 1995) was a Finnish politician who was the Finland Minister of Education from 1954 to 1956 and from May 1957 to November 1957. She was the first female Minister of Education in Finland, and introduced the legislation that established the University of Oulu. A member of the Agrarian League, Saalasti also represented Oulu in the Parliament of Finland from 1948 to 1962 and from 1966 to 1970. Early life and education Kerttu Kallio was born on 21 September 1907 in Nivala, Finland. She was the daughter of Kyösti Kallio, who was later elected as the fourth president of Finland in 1937, and Kaisa Nivala. 1968 Finnish Presidential Election
Two-stage presidential elections were held in Finland in 1968. The result was a victory for Urho Kekkonen, who won on the first ballot. The turnout for the popular vote was 70.2. Kekkonen's two opponents, the centre-right National Coalition Party's candidate Director of the National Commercial Bank Matti Virkkunen and the populist Finnish Rural Party's leader Veikko Vennamo, criticized him for governing Finland in a too autocratic way. Vennamo in particular accused Kekkonen of pursuing a too dependent and servile foreign policy towards the Soviet Union.
