Katie Sieben
Katie Sieben (born March 23, 1977) is an American politician who served as a member of the Minnesota Senate from 2007 to 2017. A member of the Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party (DFL), she represented the 54th, which included portions of Dakota and Washington counties. Ms. Sieben currently serves as a commissioner of the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission, to which she was appointed by Governor Mark Dayton. Early life and education Sieben was born and raised in Newport, Minnesota. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Colorado College and a Master of Public Administration from the Harvard Kennedy School. Sieben also served as a policy fellow at the Humphrey School of Public Affairs. Career Sieben was first elected to the Senate in 2006, and was re-elected in 2010 and 2012. The Minnesota Senate is the upper house of the Legislature of the U.S. state of Minnesota. At 67 members, half as many as the Minnesota House of Representatives, it is the largest upper house of any U.S. state legislature. The Minnesota Legislature is the bicameral legislature of the U.S. state of Minnesota consisting of two houses: the Senate and the House of Representatives. Senators are elected from 67 single-member districts. In order to account for decennial redistricting, members run for one two-year term and two four-year terms each decade. They are elected for four-year terms in years ending in 2 and 6, and for two-year terms in years ending in 0. Representatives are elected for two-year terms from 134 single-member districts formed by dividing the 67 senate districts in half. Harry Sieben
Harry A. "Tex" Sieben, Jr. (born November 24, 1943) is a retired American politician and general, who served in senior positions in the Legislature and National Guard of the state of Minnesota. Sieben served fourteen years in the House, including four years as the Speaker. Sieben's military career spanned 35 years of active, reserve, and National Guard duty, culminating with a period of service as acting Adjutant General, the highest-ranking officer, of the Minnesota National Guard.
