Katie Millar
Katie Millar (married name Millar-Wirig) is a former beauty pageant contestant who was Miss Utah in 2006 and a top ten finisher in Miss America 2007. Early life and education Millar-Wirig was born and raised in Utah. Her parents are Bret and Rita Millar. She graduated high school at age 17, and while attending Brigham Young University for a bachelor's degree in neuroscience, decided to compete in the Miss Utah competition for the opportunity to win a scholarship to support her education. Pageants In 2006, Millar-Wirig was crowned Miss Utah, which included a $10,000 scholarship. The focus of her advocacy platform as Miss Utah was support for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, inspired by a sibling diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes during childhood. Miss Utah
The Miss Utah competition is the pageant that selects the representative for the state of Utah in the Miss America pageant. Two Miss Utah titleholders have won the Miss America pageant. Lindsey Larsen of Lehi was crowned Miss Utah 2021 on June 11, 2022 at the Capital Theatre in Salt Lake City, Utah. She competed for the title of Miss America 2023 at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut in December 2022 where she was a Non-finalist Talent winner. Mount Timpanogos Utah Temple
The Mount Timpanogos Utah Temple is the 49th operating temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The temple is located in American Fork, Utah and is the second temple built in Utah County and the ninth in Utah. Announcement The temple was announced by Gordon B. Hinckley, then a counselor in the church's First Presidency, in general conference on October 3, 1992. The exact location, on land in American Fork previously used as a church welfare farm, was announced at the following conference six months later. The Mount Timpanogos Utah Temple overlooks the cities of American Fork, Cedar Hills, Highland and Alpine as well as nearby Utah Lake. Mount Timpanogos, the peak from which the temple gets its name, and the Wasatch Mountains serve as a backdrop. Ground was broken for the Mount Timpanogos Utah Temple a year after its announcement. The ''Daily Herald'' is a daily newspaper that covers news and community events in Utah County, central Utah. Much of the coverage focuses on the Provo-Orem metropolitan area in Utah Valley. Miss America 2007, the 80th Miss America pageant, was held on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada on Monday, January 29, 2007, making it the first time that the pageant was held on a weekday, rather than the traditional Saturday since 1927's contest. The pageant was broadcast live on CMT from the Theatre for the Performing Arts at the Aladdin Resort and Casino, only the second time that the pageant has been held outside Atlantic City. At the conclusion of the final night of competition, outgoing titleholder Jennifer Berry crowned Lauren Nelson as her successor. Type 1 diabetes (T1D), formerly known as juvenile diabetes, is an autoimmune disease that originates when cells that make insulin (beta cells) are destroyed by the immune system. Insulin is a hormone required for the cells to use blood sugar for energy and it helps regulate glucose levels in the bloodstream. Before treatment this results in high blood sugar levels in the body. The common symptoms of this elevated blood sugar are frequent urination, increased thirst, increased hunger, weight loss, and other serious complications. Additional symptoms may include blurry vision, tiredness, and slow wound healing. Symptoms typically develop over a short period of time, often a matter of weeks. JDRF is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that funds type 1 diabetes (T1D) research, provides a broad array of community and activist services to the T1D population and actively advocates for regulation favorable to medical research and approval of new and improved treatment modalities. It was initially founded as the JDF, the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. It later changed its name to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and is now known as JDRF.
