Kathleen Ritter
Kathleen Ritter is an artist, curator, and writer based in Vancouver and Paris who focuses on contemporary art. In her works she is focused on exploring themes of "visibility, especially in relation to systems of power, language and technology,". Career Ritter graduated from the Emily Carr University of Art + Design with a BFA in 2000 and obtained an MFA from the University of Western Ontario in 2005. In 2013, Ritter was an artist in residence at the Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris in Paris. She was a visiting artist in residency at Open Studio, Toronto, in the spring of 2017. Ritter also works as a part of the advisory council for Prefix ICA At the Vancouver Art Gallery, Ritter curated shows including ''How Soon Is Now'' (2009) and ''Beat Nation'' (2012). Contemporary Art
Contemporary art is the art of today, produced in the second half of the 20th century or in the 21st century. Contemporary artists work in a globally influenced, culturally diverse, and technologically advancing world. Their art is a dynamic combination of Medium (arts), materials, methods, concepts, and subjects that continue the challenging of boundaries that was already well underway in the 20th century. Diverse and eclectic, contemporary art as a whole is distinguished by the very lack of a uniform, organising principle, ideology, or "-ism". Emily Carr University of Art + Design (abbreviated as ECU) is a public art university located in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The university's campus is located within the Great Northern Way Campus in Strathcona. The university is a co-educational instutiton that operates which operates four academic faculties, the Faculty of Culture + Community, the Ian Gillespie Faculty of Design + Dynamic Media, the Audian Faculty of Art, and the Jake Kerr Faculty of Graduate Studies. Vancouver Art Gallery
The Vancouver Art Gallery (VAG) is an art museum in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The museum occupies a adjacent to Robson Square in downtown Vancouver, making it the largest art museum in Western Canada by building size. Designed by Francis Rattenbury, the building the museum presently occupies was originally opened as a provincial courthouse, before it was re-purposed for museum use in the early 1980s. The building was designated as the Former Vancouver Law Courts National Historic Site of Canada in 1980. The museum was opened to the public in 1931 in a building designed by architectural firm Sharp and Johnston. The museum expanded its first building once in 1950, before plans were undertaken to move the institution to the former provincial courthouse building. Fillip
Fillip is a Vancouver-based contemporary art publishing organization formed in 2004. It publishes a magazine as well as books of critical writing. The magazine with the same name was started in 2005. The publisher of the magazine is the Projectile Publishing Society, a Canadian non-profit. In 2008 it opened an office on the border between Gastown and the Downtown Eastside from which it hosts month events including artist talks, publication launches, and screenings. Tania Willard (born 1977) is an Indigenous Canadian multidisciplinary artist, graphic designer, and curator, known for mixing traditional Indigenous arts practices with contemporary ideas. Willard is from the Secwepemc nation, of the British Columbia interior, Canada. Willard was the co-curator for the art exhibition, ''Beat Nation: Art Hip Hop and Aboriginal Culture'', which toured in major galleries across Canada.
