Kathleen McPhillips
Kathleen McPhillips is an Australian sociologist of religion and gender in the School of Humanities, Creative Industries and Social Sciences at the University of Newcastle, Australia and the current vice-president of the Australian Association for the Study of Religion. Education McPhillips completed a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) at Macquarie University and a Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Newcastle. Her doctoral thesis, titled Feminism, religion and modernity, was completed in 1995. Career McPhillips is an Australian sociologist of religion, gender and trauma. Her academic appointments have included roles at the Australian National University, the University of Western Sydney and the University of Newcastle. Radio National
Radio National, known on-air as RN, is an Australia-wide public service broadcasting radio network run by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). From 1947 until 1985, the network was known as ABC Radio 2. History 1937: Predecessors and beginnings From 1928, the National Broadcasting Service, as part of the federal Postmaster-General's Department, gradually took over responsibility for all the existing stations that were sponsored by public licence fees ("A" Class licences). The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) is the national broadcaster of Australia. It is principally funded by direct grants from the Australian Government and is administered by a government-appointed board. The ABC is a publicly-owned body that is politically independent and fully accountable, with its charter enshrined in legislation, the ''Australian Broadcasting Corporation Act 1983''. ABC Commercial, a profit-making division of the corporation, also helps to generate funding for content provision. The ABC was established as the Australian Broadcasting Commission on 1 July 1932 by an act of federal parliament. Penny Magee
Penny Magee (11 June 1937–17 February 1998) was an Australian scholar of religion specialising in feminist studies and eastern religions. The Penny Magee Memorial Lecture was established in her honour by the Australian Association for the Study of Religion. Early life and education Penelope Margaret Magee was born on 11 June 1937. She grew up in Brisbane in a Catholic family. Magee received degrees from the University of Melbourne, Adelaide and Lancaster. She studied at the University of South Australia and undertook postgraduate studies under supervisors Ninian Smart and Eric Sharp. Career Magee was a religious studies scholar who specialised in feminist studies and eastern religions.
