Katharina of Hanau (26 March 1525 – 20 August 1581) was the eldest daughter of Philipp II, Count of Hanau-Münzenberg and Countess Juliana of Stolberg. Marriage and issue Katharina married in 1543 to Count Johann IV of Wied-Runkel and Isenburg (d. 15 June 1581). In 1525, he was mentioned as a canon in Cologne;See Dek, p. 229 he later reverted to the lay state. Philipp II, Count Of Hanau-Münzenberg
Philipp II (17 August 1501 in Hanau – 28 March 1529 in Hanau) was Count of Hanau-Münzenberg from 1512 until his death. He was the son of Count Reinhard IV and his wife, Katharina of Schwarzburg-Blankenburg. Regency Philipp II of Hanau-Münzenberg was only 11 years old when he inherited the county. A guardian and regent were needed for him and his seven years younger brother Balthasar. A regency council was installed by the Reichskammergericht at the recommendation of their mother, after she had consulted the lower nobility in the county. The council consisted initially of Philipp's mother and his great-uncle Count John V of Nassau-Siegen. Philipp's mother died in 1514 and John V was the sole regent until he died himself in 1516. After John's death, the Reichskammergericht appointed, at Philipp's recommendation, John's son, Count William I of Nassau-Siegen as regent. Reinhard IV, Count Of Hanau-Münzenberg
Count Reinhard IV of Hanau-Münzenberg (14 March 1473 – 30 January 1512) succeeded in 1500 his father Philipp I of Hanau-Münzenberg (1449–1500) in the government of the County of Hanau-Münzenberg. He served as co-regent from 1496 onwards. Youth Reinhard IV was born the son of Philipp I, Count of Hanau-Münzenberg and his wife, Countess Adriana of Nassau-Siegen (1449–1477). His godfather was Prince-abbot Johann II of Henneberg-Schleusingen of the Fulda monastery. Reinhard IV made several journeys in his youth: in 1493 to the Palatine court at Heidelberg and in 1495 to the Diet of Worms. Government From 1496 to 1500, Reinhard IV acted as co-ruler alongside his father who was already disabled by old age. Count Philipp I of Hanau-Münzenberg, nicknamed ''Philipp the Younger'', (20 September 1449, at Windecken Castle – 26 August 1500) was a son of Count Reinhard III of Hanau and Countess Palatine Margaret of Mosbach. He was the Count of Hanau from 1452 to 1458. The county was then divided between him and his uncle Philipp the Elder. Philipp the Younger received Hanau-Münzenberg and ruled there from 1458 until his death. Childhood Philipp I was born at Windecken Castle (now in Nidderau) and was baptized in the local church. Katharina of Schwarzburg-Blankenburg (after 1470 – 27 November 1514) was the wife of Count Reinhard IV of Hanau-Münzenberg (14 March 1473 – 30 January 1512). She was a daughter of Günther XXXVIII of Schwarzburg-Blankenburg (1450-1484) and Catherine of Querfurt (d. 1521). Katharina and Reinhard married on 13 February 1496. As her dowry, she brought 4000 guilders into the marriage, plus the share held by Schwarzburg in the mortgage on the imperial city of Gelnhausen. Philipp V of Hanau-Lichtenberg (21 February 1541, Bouxwiller – 2 June 1599, Niederbronn) was Count of Hanau-Lichtenberg from 1590 until his death. Life Philipp V was the eldest son, heir and successor of Count Philipp IV of Hanau-Lichtenberg (1514–1590) and the Countess Eleonore of Fürstenberg (1523–1544). Philipp V was baptized in Bouxwiller on the day he was born. On 18 June 1553 he enrolled at the University of Tübingen, where he focussed on mathematics and astronomy. It was said that for a long time the Hanau family possessed a silver "terrestrial and celestial sphere" that Philipp had manufactured himself. In his last years, Philipp V was sick. He died in 1599 during a visit to the spa in Bad Niederbronn. He was buried in Lichtenberg. Juliana Of Stolberg
Juliana, Countess of Stolberg-Wernigerode (15 February 1506 in Stolberg, Saxony-Anhalt – 18 June 1580) was the mother of William the Silent, the leader of the successful Dutch Revolt against the Spanish in the 16th century. Juliana was born in Stolberg as the daughter of Bodo VIII, Count of Stolberg-Wernigerode and Anna of Eppstein-Königstein. She was raised a Roman Catholic but changed her religion twice, first to Lutheranism and later to Calvinism. She, along with her second husband, was a convinced Protestant and raised their children in the Protestant ways. After the death of her second husband in 1559 she remained living at Dillenburg castle, now belonging to her second son John, where she died in 1580.
