Kateryna Yurchenko ( uk, Катерина Юрченко) (born August 19, 1976) is a Ukrainian sprint canoer who competed in the mid-1990s. At the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, she was eliminated in the semifinals of both the K-2 500 m and the K-4 500 m event. Vasyl Yurchenko (russian: Василий Юрченко)(alternate spellings: Vasily Yurchenko, Vasiliy Jurtzhenko, born 26 May 1950) is a Soviet-born Ukrainian sprint canoeist who competed from the early 1970s to the early 1980s. Competing in three Summer Olympics, he won two medals. This included one silver (C-1 1000 m: 1976) and one bronze (C-2 1000 m: 1980). Yurchenko had better success at the ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships, winning 12 medals. Canoeing has been featured as competition sports in the Summer Olympic Games since the 1936 Summer Olympics, 1936 Games in Berlin, although they were demonstration sports at the 1924 Summer Olympics, 1924 Games in Paris. There are two disciplines of canoeing in Olympic competition: Whitewater slalom, slalom and Canoe racing, sprint. Two styles of boats are used in this sport: canoes with 1 or 2 canoers and kayaks with 1, 2 or 4 kayakers. This leads to the name designation of each event.
