Fritz Kater
Fritz Kater (12 December 1861 – 20 May 1945) was a German trade unionist active in the Free Association of German Trade Unions (FVdG) and its successor organization, the Free Workers' Union of Germany. He was the editor of the FVdG's organ '' Einigkeit'' and—after World War I—owner of the publishing houses Fritz Kater Verlag and Syndikalist. The son of a farmhand, Kater was born in 1861 in Barleben. His mother died when he was two years old. From the age of five, he had to work on the farm or at home in order to support his family. During his final two years in school, he also worked in a local sugar factory during the winter. Even after Kater started an apprenticeship as a mason, he still had to help his father on the farm as the elderly man was frequently ill. Only during the winter did Kater have spare time to read and educate himself. Fritz Reuter, a humorous poet who wrote in Low German, was his favorite writer. Henry Kater
Henry Kater FRS, FRAS (16 April 1777 – 26 April 1835) was a British physicist of German descent. Early life He was born at Bristol. At first he intended to study law; but he gave up the idea on his father's death in 1794. He entered the army, obtaining a commission in the 12th Regiment of Foot, then stationed in India, where he assisted William Lambton in the Great Trigonometric Survey. Failing health obliged him to return to England; and in 1808, then a lieutenant, he entered on a student career at the Senior Division of the new Royal Military College at High Wycombe. Shortly afterwards he was promoted to the rank of captain. In 1814 he retired on half-pay, and devoted the remainder of his life to scientific research. Norman William Kater
Sir Norman William Kater MB, ChM (18 November 1874–18 August 1965) was a medical practitioner, pastoralist and member of the New South Wales Legislative Council. He was born into a socially prominent rural family. His father Henry Kater also was a member of the Legislative Council, and his grandfather William Forster was Premier of New South Wales. He served as a member of the Legislative Council for 30 years, from 1921 to 1955. He was educated at All Saints College, Bathurst, and Sydney Grammar School. Peter Kater
Peter Kater (born 1958) is a German-born American pianist, composer and Grammy Award winner. When he was four, he moved with his family from Germany to New Jersey. He studied classical piano at an early age. In 1977 when he was eighteen, Peter moved to Boulder, Colorado, where he spent thirteen years before moving to Virginia and later Los Angeles, building his own studio, and starting his own record label. His debut album, ''Spirit'' (Silver Wave, 1983), and those that followed reached the Top 20 New Age music chart at ''Billboard'' magazine. These included several collaborations with R. Carlos Nakai. He has also collaborated with Snatam Kaur, Michael DeMaria, Tina Guo, Nawang Khechog and Dominic Miller. The Katir (also spelled Kati, Kator and Kata) are a Nuristani tribe in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Etymology The Katir a 'tɘor Kata Kafir group was ''numerically'' the most dominant group of the Siah-Posh (Persian "Black Wearer/Clothed") tribes. They owned approximately forty villages in the Bashgul valley and numbered about 40,000 (1890). The upper part of the Bashgul Valley of Nuristan (Afghanistan) is known as Katirgul. It is called Lutdeh in Chitrali and ''Kantozi'' in Pashto.
