Kate Torney
Kate Torney has had a 30-year career spanning, journalism and media, the creative industries and the development sectors. She is currently CEO of the Peter MacCallum Cancer Foundation and was formerly the CEO of the State Library of Victoria from 2015 to 2021 where she led an $88 million redevelopment of the heritage building, which attracts 11 million visitors each year. Prior to this, Kate was ABC News (Australia) Director leading a team of more than1500 people in 56 locations across Australia and around the world. In this role she oversaw all news and current affairs content for the national broadcaster, from radio and television bulletins to long-form programs including Four Corners and Australian Story. She also led the expansion of the ABC's digital services and the launch of ABC News 24. State Library Victoria (SLV) is the state library of Victoria, Australia. Wheeler Centre
The Wheeler Centre, originally Centre of Books, Writing and Ideas, is a literary and publishing centre founded as part of Melbourne's bid to be a Unesco Creative City of Literature, which designation it earned in 2008. It is named after its patrons, Tony and Maureen Wheeler, founders of the Lonely Planet travel guides. Opened in 2010, the centre is housed in the southern wing of the State Library of Victoria.
