Kate Richardson-Walsh
Kate Louise Richardson-Walsh, (''née'' Walsh; born 9 May 1980) is an Olympic Gold and Bronze Medal winning English field hockey player. She was capped a record 375 times for her country and was the England and Great Britain Captain for 13 years. Early life Richardson-Walsh was born in Withington, Manchester and attended Priestnall School in Stockport. At the age of 16 she joined Aquinas College in Stockport because it afforded her more support for her hockey. She graduated from Brunel University in 2003 with a 2:1 (BSc Sports Science). At the age of 11 she joined Didsbury Greys Hockey Club in Manchester followed by Hightown Hockey club. Richardson-Walsh was selected to play for the under 16 Great Britain team when she was 14. Hockey At The 2014 Commonwealth Games
Field hockey is one of ten core sports at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. It was the fifth appearance of hockey at the Commonwealth Games since its inclusion in 1998. The competition took place between Thursday 24 July and Sunday 3 August at the purpose built National Hockey Centre on the city's famous Glasgow Green. Preparation The purpose built National Hockey Centre hosted the 2014 Women's Hockey Champions Challenge I and a men's four nations tournament (involving Argentina, Belgium, England and Scotland) in April 2014 as test events in the lead up to the Commonwealth Games. EuroHockey Nations Championship
The EuroHockey Nations Championship is an international men's field hockey competition organised by the European Hockey Federation (EHF) for the top eight European national teams. It is the top division of the EuroHockey Nations Championships. The tournament started in 1970. When the tournament is held close to the Summer Olympic games or the Hockey World Cup, the winner of the tournament is awarded a place in those competitions. Format Since 2005 the tournament is played in Divisions, normally consisting of 8 teams. The top division, containing the eight best national teams, is called the EuroHockey Championship, below which there is the EuroHockey Championship II, then the EuroHockey Championship III, then the EuroHockey Championship IV, and so on. 2010 Women's Hockey World Cup
The 2010 Women's Hockey World Cup was the 12th edition of the Women's Hockey World Cup field hockey tournament. It was held from 29 August to 11 September 2010 in Rosario, Argentina. Argentina won the tournament for the second time after defeating defending champions the Netherlands 3–1 in the final. England won the third place match by defeating Germany 2–0 to claim their first ever World Cup medal. Background After Argentina was confirmed as host nation, it was decided to hold the tournament in Buenos Aires in a new stadium built in GEBA's grounds, but the club later refused to organize it due to economical difficulties. Women's Hockey World Cup
The Women's FIH Hockey World Cup is the field hockey World Cup competition for women, whose format for qualification and the final tournament is similar to the men's. It has been held since 1974. The tournament has been organized by the International Hockey Federation (FIH) since they merged with the International Federation of Women's Hockey Associations (IFWHA) in 1982. Since 1986, it has been held regularly once every four years, in the same year as the men's competition, which is mid-cycle between Summer Olympic games. Of the fourteen tournaments held so far, only four teams have won the event. Netherlands is by far the most successful team, having won the title nine times. Argentina, Germany and Australia are joint second best teams, having each won the title twice. So far, the Netherlands and Australia are the two champions able to defend their titles.
