Kate Panter
Katerine Ruth Panter (born 3 May 1962) is a former British rower. She competed in the women's coxless pair event at the 1984 Summer Olympics. Rowing career As a teenager Panter joined the Weybridge Ladies ARC before Dan Topolski brought her into the British training squad along with fellow teammates Jane Cross, Belinda Holmes and Joanna Toch in 1979. She was part of the eight that won the national title, rowing for an A.R.A Composite, at the 1982 National Rowing Championships. She competed at the 1983 World Rowing Championships before being selected to represent Great Britain at the 1984 Olympic Games, where she was part of the women's coxless pair with Ruth Howe Ruth Howe (born 14 May 1959) is a British rower. Rowing (sport)
Rowing, sometimes called crew in the United States, is the sport of racing boats using oars. It differs from paddling sports in that rowing oars are attached to the boat using oarlocks, while paddles are not connected to the boat. Rowing is divided into two disciplines: sculling and sweep rowing. In sculling, each rower holds two oars—one in each hand, while in sweep rowing each rower holds one oar with both hands. There are several boat classes in which athletes may compete, ranging from single sculls, occupied by one person, to shells with eight rowers and a coxswain, called eights. There are a wide variety of course types and formats of racing, but most elite and championship level racing is conducted on calm water courses long with several lanes marked using buoys. Cambridge University Women's Boat Club (CUWBC) was the rowing club for women at the University of Cambridge. CUWBC fielded both a lightweight eight that races against Oxford at the Henley Boat Races, and two openweight eights that race at the Women's Boat Race. In April 2020 it was agreed that the club would be combined with the men's club CUBC and the lightweight men's club CULRC. Jane Mary Cross (born 25 August 1961) is a former British rower who competed at the 1980 Summer Olympics. Rowing career Cross first became interested in rowing at a young age when she was part of the Wraysbury Skiff and Punting Club, which led to joining the Weybridge Ladies ARC in 1977. In 1979 she competed in the FISA Youth Championships before joining the British senior squad the same year.
